I have a IH 2250 i need to make a couple bucket brackets for to attach a spear i have. What thickness steel would you all use? Or anyone know of a company that makes them at a reasonable price?
If I understand you correctly, you're wanting to make a separate, pin on hay spear? So you'd unpin the bucket and pin on the spear rather than attach the spear to the bucket? I wasn't 100% sure since you mention "bucket" brackets. If that's accurate, I'd just use the same thickness of steel as what's on the bucket brackets. I could make it for you but you're a bit far away. Any half decent fab shop should be able to make that if you decide you're not confident doing it yourself. It's a very simple design.I have a IH 2250 i need to make a couple bucket brackets for to attach a spear i have. What thickness steel would you all use? Yeah I知 trying to make new pin on mounts.
Just need a hole saw of the right size for the bushings and an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Making the bushings is by far the hardest part. You'll need to go to a machine shop for that if you don't have a lathe.
I was talking about the bushings for the brackets that pin to the loader arms. The one for the spear itself isn't nearly as critical since it doesn't rotate. You might try locating some thick walled pipe for the ‘bushings’ to hold the spears. A good drill bit, preferably a drill press, and some planning, you could have fairly long bushings holding the spear and use a hardened pin to hold the spears in place. If you can weld and have access to a welder, this is just some though/planning and welding time.
If you attach it to your bucket, you will want to fo some reinforcing to your bucket. My bucket is pin on also and a royal pain to change. I gave often thought about a SSQA conversion.
