Just finished making bucket forks for my KL130 /30hp hst. the forks extend 36" from the bucket.I tried it out for the first time yesterday and was not a happy camper after all the hours I put in making it.I couldnt tell the weight of the rock I was trying to lift, I just know it was to large for my bucket. That is why I installed the forks, but it wouldnt lift. My question is, is it a leverage thing, the forks being to long. Does anyone have any idea of weight I should beable to lift. The bucket is a standard 60" that come with the kl130.

Your loader's lift capacity is only 1155 lbs at the pivot pins. With forks on it the lift capacity and the end of the forks would be less than half that. If you are trying to lift a rock that is larger than your bucket you are most likely trying to lift something that exceeds your loader's capacity. The farther away from the pivot pins the load is the less the loader can lift.

I picked up an 800 lb crate of apples with my Payne's forks and the KL 130.
It did it but looked a little dicy. After that I got some large turnbuckles and mounted them with eyelets from the fork area near the cutting edge to the bucket top near the hinge bracket. The forks now bend a lot less....I'm not so worried about bending the bucket due to leverage.

I figure that I can lift about 800lbs of rock (or whatever) with the bucket and a little less if I am using the pallet forks and the weight is out at the ends of the forks.

I can lift rocks that are "bigger" than the bucket. I've tried the forks but I have had the most success with the straps.

(I'm trying to attach a picture but no luck so far) :-(

That would be about right. Typically, if you take the pivot point capcity and reduce it by about 30% you will get the real world capacity. In this case, that would be about 808#. Its not an exact science but that is a good rule of thumb.

Pick a smaller rock to move. Another alternative would be to chain or strap the rock into the bucket, or part way into the bucket. I've also had very good luck with using the 3pt hitch with forks as the rear hitch has more capcity on most tractors than the FEL.

Several months ago, someone had a picture of moving a very large rock. They rolled it on to an old car hood and then dragged it to its new home. Not a bad idea for the really big ones.
