Bucket Load of Firewood; Weight.??

I'd say you're fine unless your wood is a lot heavier than ours. This a load of maple and birch, which although dry is definitely relatively heavy. I have the snow screen on a 60" bucket, which extends a full 12" above the upper lip of the bucket.

There's no mistaking the bucket is full of something when you travel over a bump loaded, my loader is rated to lift 1100 lbs. If I had to guess I'd say it was in the vicinity of 500-600 pounds like this.

Chilly, do you have any pictures of that bucket expander? I need to set up something like that.

Wouldn't the relief valve on the hydraulics prevent you from damaging your tractor if there was too much weight in the bucket?
If shes-a-no-lift, take some out?

It'll protect the tractor on the initial lift, but if you hit a hole or serious bump while traveling with a loaded bucket the shock load will often exceed the safe limit. There's not usually any pressure relief on the work ports for safety reasons, so whatever induced load it gets the tractor has to carry.

That's how I see it too.

And, it's more about my axle than the loader.

Just take one of your average size pieces of wood and weigh it on the bathroom scale then multiply by roughly how many pieces you put in your bucket. Quick and easy ?

Holy cow - what CUTs are you looking at? That's a massive bucket. The poster's bucket was a 54" bucket, which will be a lot closer to 1/4 yard struck.

Pulled it off a site that was listing FEL buckets and sizes.

At work and don't have the opportunity to walk out to the tractor with a tape measure.

I used 2 x 2 x 1/8 square tube, welded on 3/4-9 expanded metal, and bolted it to the rear of the bucket. It's removable when I don't need it, keeps snow from coming back over the top of the bucket, and the lights shine through it pretty well.

Thanks for the pics. Thats just what I need to rig up. My lights are on the rops so not an issue. My loader capacity is rated at 1,186 lbs. One would have to be quite creative at stacking to get that much wood in the bucket without some 'assisting structure'.
Wifey says, "Just use the pickup". I have to remind her the pickup doesn't have a dump function. Both are rated at 1/2 ton. I'd prefer not to have to unload at the woodshed.
Good stuff.
