Foton FT404 w/Koyker 160 FEL and a Dig-It Towable Backhoe
Hello all,
I have a Koyker 160 FEL on my tractor and I just had my son weld on some hooks to the bucket. I added the hooks directly in line with the loader arms as has been recommended on several posts but I am not sure I thought this through very well :) . There are some large holes that look like they are for mounting something large in the backside mount area of the bucket and I have no idea what they might be for. Did i just block access to an attachment area? What would mount here on the bucket?

Thanks all I appreciate any help

No idea what the holes are for. I doubt an attachment. Looks like a good install, exactly where I would have put the hooks. I would not worry about it.

Where those are located, the only thing that comes to mind is a secondary pin location for the curl cylinders - if the pins were moved there, you would have a bit less curl range but more force... Steve

These do look like aux, secondary or "class ll" pin locations for your upper/curl cylinders. The hook mount locations look fine, I certainly would not worry about it. BTW, nice weld job. And as always, one picture is worth a 1K words.

I had thought about it being an alternate attach point for the curl but the holes are so much larger than the ones used for the pins. Thank you all for the info and with the responses I have been getting I think I'm safe that I didn't short change myself for another attachment in the future.

Thanks for the kind words on the welds too. I will make sure to pass it onto my son, he is 16 and loves to weld. I have to watch leaving metal stock laying around or I will come back to find it welded to something else in just a matter of days lol. He does a good job for sure. Unfortunately I dont have a stick welder so he triple passed each of them with the mig welder. He assures me the bucket will break and the tractor will crumple before his welds give lol.

oosik, You will find in my very new status as a tractor owner I will post mostly pictures just because I cannot properly convey the name of most of the devices I am asking questions about :)

I agree with the others...great looking welds and hook locations, and no clue what those holes could be for.

I have the same ones on my K1 Koyker and have hooked a chain there and pulled out metal fence posts, just figured since they are there I'll use them- mine is a little different in that there is only one hole per side and mine has the quasi fast -attach Rhino-body work 003.JPG maybe they put them there so the buckets could be moved with a chain before being mounted and sold??
Eventually I plan on mounting some hooks like you have done. great job on your install

From the pic, it looks like the main holes were larger too - I'm thinking maybe the mfg didn't wanna spend the extra to weld bushings in both sets of holes unless the buyer wanted it.

Looks like, if you wanted to, it wouldn't be too difficult to find a same-size bushing and weld it in... Steve

I'll go with the answer that the holes are for 7/16" chain securing points. Maybe for rope or cable, too.

That way the owner can avoid welding on grab hooks..........whoops.

My guess is the extra holes are for using the bracket on a different size bucket or loader in the mfg. process.

One bracket fits several buckets / loader combinations and the one it is used with determines where the bushings are welded.

My ML112 has a extra set of holes with bushings welded in already.

My :2cents: worth! :cool2:

It's all good, I did think to use them previously for lifting unfortunately it required an extra shackle, hook, or a combination of the two for every chain. Now I need nothing for all chains its a case of smarter not harder choice in working. The load will now not bend a chain over the surface of my bucket either. I never had a question on using the hooks or shackle mounts, that was going to happen because the current holes in the back were not going to cut it. It was just a smarter choice to add them, I only questioned my placement.

Ok so I had a few extra moments yesterday and figured why not call Koyker and find out what thier intention for them was. It turns out they are simply there for the rigging to paint the buckets. No special attachment and no special function so my hook locations are fine. However they did not recommend using them for hauling anything with concerns of warping or bending the mounting area and causing binding on the bucket pins or curl cylinders.

BTW all big thanks to ken @ bolt on hooks . Com. His service was excellent and he went what I consider above and beyond for me on this.. First, I didn't order the correct parts and while reviewing my order to ship he noticed it was odd and took the time to contact me to make sure I really got what I needed. I offered to go back and reorder the right parts because it was more expensive and he said "no I got you covered" (exact words). You just dont get that level of customer service anymore so thanks Ken for going the extra mile to make sure it was right the first time. My son also commented on the quality of the steel saying 90% of a good weld is the persons skill, but it doesnt suck to have good steel! He said it made this job easy! So again quality products and excellent customer service is an almost lost combination anymore. Ken has my business everytime for these needs. I just thought I would take the time to notice someone doing it right since we have so many doing it wrong.
