Take the cups or can (what ever you want to call it) off and look at the centering springs. You well maybe see one is broke.

Looks like a great opportunity to get rid of the (awful sucky terrible) two joystick setup and get into a (awesome great fantastic) single joystick.

Dad's Ford 1900 has the same setup and as a kid I wished for it to fail like that!

How many hoses connect to the valve?
Sad to say, but I suspect you will need to replace the valve.
It MIGHT have oring for seals, but many of those are metal on metal and once they wear out, the valve needs to be replaced.

Depending on how savvy you are, might consider removing the spool from the curl valve looking for any kind of damage or debris.

Totally off subject, studying the valve pics I noticed the two stick transmission shift. Can you explain how the gears work? Is it 12 speeds forward/4 speeds reverse?

Yes 12 forward 4 reverse. On the left there are gears 1-4. On the right are gears 1,2,3 and Reverse. These gears are like low, medium and high on a shuttle shift. Select a gear on the right then one on the left. Lots of hand use on this tractor. Then there are the two levers for front loader. Loader work is a challenge. Especially going foreword to reverse and using the loader. It takes a little practice to move both loader levers with one hand. I am much happier with the shuttle shift on my 1920 along with the single lever for loader. The 1700 was nice for work in tight areas.

Just for sake of conversation. If you swap the hoses so the current FEL lift spool now runs the curl and the current curl spool now runs the lift you can confirm it's the valve. But I can't see how it could be anything else.

Thanks for the explanation of the shifter. That's how I had it worked out in my mind. Great gear selection for such a small tractor. Would be sweet doing tillage work.

Thank you, ALL. Very helpful - I'll look into the valve and maybe the joystick setup, but, I'm not disatisfied with the current 2-lever setup; as long as I can remedy this creeping of the bucket roll :).

This is a fantastic tractor for me. I also have a Woods backhoe attachment that is phenomenal. 4-wheel drive is soooo handy. Sometimes I think this machine is bigger than it literally is because of the loads I can haul, trees I can drag, holes I can dig. Absolutely love it.

Thanks again folks.

I am betting you will need to replace a valve. It might be a good thing if you have ever wanted to get a grapple. You can get a joy stick with the third function at Surplus Center.

Well; come to think of it - a single joystick WOULD be nicer than 2 individual controls. I'll save up my money!!! Just need to dig into the current one to get it to act more friendly as I save my money. Any DIY instructions on how to take it apart to reveal the spring(s)?

Most valves that I have seen have springs on each end of the spool. The valves have caps on each end of the valve covering the springs. A few screws on each cap, and the cap comes off.
