Ok, I've been reading about grapples for several hours and feeling broke and confused.

Trying to be realistic, it seems having to change buckets for grapples even when you have a qa would be a pain. So could you tell me why you chose a grapple over a thumb or a thumb over grapple. And would you do it differant if you had it to do over again?

I chose the grapple because it enabled me to lightly root rake and sift while at the same time grapple. I too considered the thumb, but many times I do not want to grab too much soil.

I've narrowed it down to a grapple. Now I just need to figure if the wr long design has any major advantages to the Millonzi.
It looks like the tines on the wr long, might do so root cutting. ??

I understand there may be no advantage to get a wider than 48". Is that true for all of you?

It looks like the wider one has two "thumbs". Is there advantage/disadvantage to having the two thumbs?

I bought the 5 ft WR Long light duty root grapple for my L3130. My local dealer had sold several WR Long grapples in the past and had satisfied customers.

This grapple is great for moving brush and logs. It is not the best for picking rocks because the bottom (root) teeth do not extend out enough to get under a big rock. It is way better than chasing rocks around with the bucket.

It seems to me that each grapple has its own specific purpose. At times I think I would be better using a basic rock bucket.

I have already bent one tooth and and part of the frame a little. I am going to have a welding buddy beef it up a little and ad some wire screening on the back so stones won't fall through and hit the tractor.

The rake depth on the Millonzi 48LD seems to be 40". Do you know what yours is? The wr long site doesn't seem to say.

I FINALLY found this thread which does answer some questions.

I didn't think about stuff falling out the back. :(

Ok, so if I have a remote (seems more versitile than getting the wr long valve. If it's not to much more difficult to use.) I just run a coupla hoses up thru the body and I'm done? Maybe I should have my dealer do that.

I see you might have made your mind up already, but here is another thread where the same question was asked. There are some bucket grapple posts and other opinions reflected in it.

Bucket Grapple or Grapple

Well, I did. But not now.. :) I wrote you a question in that thread.
