Bucket truck boom mounted on trailer

I am looking to put an altec bucket boom, 30ft reach, 300lb capacity,could get one in good shape, needs a couple hoses replaced, for $700, and mount it to a trailer, I would fabricate slide out, out riggers, with crank down jacks for leveling, question is what gpm hydraulic flow rate would I need to operate the bucket, design along the route of a log splitter , but with a larger res tank and pump, thanks for any input or ideas, Dennis

The pump GPM just regulates how fast you want it to move, you can go as low as 1gpm and it will still work, but it will be really slow. I'd just time a regular bucket truck to see how long it takes to slew left/right since that is your most sensitive movement. Measure its slew cylinder diameter and use calculators online to figure out what it is flowing:

In college the place where i lived (called the slums) had a bucket boom mouted on a station wagon. The owner of the slums would use it to put on siding, (rarely) mostly it sat in a yard. I wish I had a picture of it.

Did you acquire the pump system?

I would say to compute the volume of all the cyl plus about 20% for the reservoir.

Many years ago I spent a fair amount of time in bucket lifts at 40-foot elevation running data cable. I am nether afraid of heights or overly cautious but the lift shown in these pictures makes me nervous just looking at it. The saying "give me a long enough lever and I will move the world applies," soft ground or too many fries for lunch and that puppy is going over. Home Depot in my area rents trailer mounted buckets, maybe try one out to see if it meets your expectations plus it would give you some time to determine what commercial lifts use for hydraulics and how they stabilize the base.

Nice buy 307, it's a really good lift, they only take 3 to 4 GPM to run at 2250 psi, but PLEASE trust me, DO NOT MOUNT IT ON THE TRAILER...... i build and maintain these for a living, those little hand crank jacks will fold up like a wet noodle when you extend out to the side, i sent this pic of one from HR Aerial that has a 36 ft reach, the truck has 1150LBS of counter weight mounted between the cab and rear wheels to stabilize it, PLUS the weight of the truck and box... it tops out at about 14300 lbs total.
If we install one with outriggers we use 4 inch x 2 inch rod cylinders with holding valves on the cylinder and these are welded to 2x8 1/4 wall steel tubing, this needs to be engineered, yes it can be done but it will not be cheap.

I have a trailer-able boom lift. Its a Max force XLB-4232

It uses 4 GC2 (6v golf cart) batteries wired in series (24v) It has a Hi/Low speed switch that runs one of two electric motors, each with there own pump.

I would suggest you have a hi/low option. You really need it when you get close to an object (especially when rotating)
