Buckwheat and yellow clover

We have a field of mulch from land clearing and weeds. SWMBO was talking to some seed company that told her she could just broadcast buckwheat heavy over the top and it would do well. Anyone care to comment on that method?

I have good luck just broadcasting buckwheat. I have run a wheel harrow over it, very light/shallow just to cover it enough to keep the birds, mostly Turkeys, from eating it. If it has enough water it is fine on the top of the soil.
