Calling on help from North Texans. I have been trying to locate an old flat bed heavy duty trailer (as in semi) at least 30' long to build a bridge. Looking for something that is basically useless as a trailer, but still structurally sound (read cheap). Wrecked running gear, slightly bent steel, or whatever. I have contacted several salvage yards north of Dallas with no luck. Would like to find one I could just have hauled in and dropped across my creek (with some concrete footings to raise it above grade). My creek usually floods at least once a year so putting in a large culvert like TXDON did is not feasible. The price of new steel for I beams is pretty expensive, plus I would have to go thru the process of determining what it would take to support my tractor, coming up with a design, and then some pretty extensive construction work. My creek is mud bottom, so I need to clear span 30'. I figure a semi flat bed would easily support my tractor at about 4000 lbs and, except for the footings, there would be little effort in putting it in place.
Anyone seen anything like that setting out in a salvage yard or in someone's pasture in the N TX area? I occasionally see enclosed trailers around, but no flat beds.
