There is an abandoned Allis Chalmers model D road scraper on my property. Been sitting there for decades. The blade assembly looks good. I debated about a full restoration, but don't have the mechanical skills to do engine or transmission work. Looks like I could easily remove the blade and carriage, weld on a 3 point hitch, and have a real heavy duty scraper. Anyone ever seen this done? Any comments? I'll try to get some

You could do this kind of conversion, using most of the grader.
A contractor bought the old CAT grader off the municipality about 25 to 30 years ago, when most dirt roads were being paved and the old grader operator retired and there werent enough other people with the skills to operate a grader. They did it the same way, cut it right in front of the cab, welded a hitch eye to it, turned the blade 180 degrees and pulled it backward to grade and slope the sand bed for pavement bricks on driveways and farm roads. Dont know if they still have it.

The municipality nowadays crowns roads with an angle plough in the front 3pt and a land drag at the rear.

You could do this kind of conversion, using most of the grader. This would be mostly a subtraction project. :) <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=342558"/> A business doing it: http://cwenterprises.ca/Grader_Photos.htm Bruce
Wow! I never would have thought of that. Such a great idea and relatively easy to do. There was an old grader for sale near me for years at the town building, with broken glass and rusty cab that probably hadn't been run in 20 years. I kept thinking "how on earth could I get that thing into useable condition?" I wish I saw this thread a year ago and I may have given it a try.

That's really slick but my needs would require a smaller, more maneuverable one. The one you show would be great for more open roads but I would use it in tighter spots and a three point version would be easier to handle. But a great idea

Convert it to a towed grader, sell it, then buy a blade like you want.

Offer it to CW Enterprises.

They might give you enough to buy what you want- :confused3:

So you'd subtract even more: subtract the frame and axle of the grader too, and weld a 3pt frame to the blade carrier beam... its all there :)

Yes, welding a 3 point hitch to the carrier beam is what I plan. I only have one rear remote so most adjustments will be manual
