Kudos to Kubota, maybe it's just that I have not seen the option to build my own Kubota before with MSRP, however I like it as an option now.

And yes, I am new here at like many of those here I am looking for a tractor. Any advice is greatly appreciated and I am sorry only becuase I know so many people ask

So I currently have 2 acres, but moving to 10 at our new home. I figured I would look to purchase soon with a good amount of work to do before we sell our current home and it will be nice to have something to keep up the new property as well. I figured I would spec the tractor I want more toward the new house, only needing an FEL and BH to start and I am thinking something smaller that can handle those two implements.

I don't have a brand picked out and have been looking at Kioti, Kubota, and even Massy as there are dealers that are close. Size and Price are factors (reason JD would most likely not be an option) only because I don't plan to go commercial or farm any of the land we will have. While I understand you get what you pay for, I also believe Levis are just as good as Cole when it comes to getting the job done. I also understand the need for a good dealer and as also do not believe a good dealer is brand specific.

The 10 acres break down to about 4-lawn, 4-woods, and the rest is over growth with a 1 or so acre pond. I have a riding lawn mower that is nowhere near retirement or at least I can wait on that implement for now, however I have a good amount of work for the BH and FEL now and after we move.

If I needed to choose today, I am starting to lean toward the Kioti for price and it looks to be built tough when compared to others I have looked at, however I have never owned above the riding lawn class and would like to hear anyone's thought or suggestions on any brand. I am thinking something starting in size around a Kubota BX24 or Kioti CK20 to a Kubota B Series or Kioti CK35 (sorry, I don't know the Massy brand that well yet). I don't have a pref to gear or hydro as I am still working out the final details to which will suit everything I will be doing at the new property.

I am located in the Mid-Michigan area and planning to look at MichIron and McCormick hopefully this week or weekend depending on time after work this week. I would purchase today if I had the right info, however I am only holding off at this point in hopes of gaining the knowledge from the awesome group here at TBN. :D

Thanks again for any assistance, and I am happy to answer any questions

Dan

I have dealt with bob (owner) at Michigan Iron.Super folks to deal with and great service to boot.I was looking at kubota, mahindra, and a few others.I chose a Kioti Dk40se,very Heavy duty tractor IMHO.I think you would be very happy with a Ck35.Give michigan Iron a call you be happy you did.coobie

Dan, for ten acres I like larger tractors but if you choose to leave the woods, woods I might be okay with the BX but otherwise I'd recomend the B-series.

coobie - I can't tell you how glad I am to hear you recommend MIron! They are one of the top dealers on my short list. I actually dropped in this weekend during off hours (was not sure of their hours) and was able to see some of their stock and was most impressed. I do plan to return and am most hopeful for a great price and great impression as I have heard from one other. That and I live so close to them I could actually drive the Tractor home if I purchased from them. :D

Art - good to know, I was thinking along the same thought with my only reason toward leaning toward the BX size is that I have a feeling most of my time will be in the woods. I plan to take a better look at the property this weekend however from what I could see the main trail is somewhat tight. Not sure if it's going to be much of an issue and at the same time I hear many say "go bigger" so won't need an upgrade for a while.

Keep em coming, all points of view are welcome and if anyone else has dealer experience around the Mid-Michigan area, I would love to hear them.

I'll agree with both the previous posters. 10 acres = mid sized CUT and a CK35 gear can be had right now w/ FEL for a price that still makes me quezzy. Step up to the hydro if needed.

If you're going to be doing a lot of FEL work, hydro is absolutely amazing. I was a skeptic but tried it on my CK30 and I don't think I'll be without on anything I plan to use "around the house". If I ever get to doing field work I'll likely go with gear. If I was planning to do a lot of BH work only, I'd probably go with gear too.

If you're NOT planning to mow then get all the weight you can and R1 tires if it won't be on the lawn too much. You will have superior traction. If you ever plan to mow all 4 acres you might want to think about getting the mower now as well. It's usually cheaper to do it when buying the tractor and finding something used in decent condition for a reasonable price is a pipe dream in my area. Your tire choice will likely be influenced by this decision as well.

Go hop on a few and then sign the paperwork for a kioti CK35 hydro and never look back :D . Seriously though, a 35 for the prices I've been hearing is almost too good to be true. There's no way I could pass it up.

Good luck.

I think you will see that bob at Michigan Iron will beat or be real close on the price for a new kioti tractor. When you throw in good customer service, thats a plus in my book.Pm me if you have more questions.coobie

Unfortunately I have no way to avoid driving over the majority of the lawn to get back to the woods where I will do most of my work. I am considering R4 industrial tires over turf. I am not sure how bad they will tear up or leave indentations vs using turf in the woods...
