I ordered all my metal for the deck and other parts (hydraulic motor, hub, blades, quick attach plate) on Friday. Should have everything in about two weeks. I can't wait to get it built. I'm building an open front brush cutter like the one on brushmonster.com. A guy selling a used one let me demo it with my machine and it worked great...made quick work of some pretty dense brush. What do you guys think of using a rotary cutter vs. a mulcher. I know a mulcher is more professional and all and you can charge more per hour but those rotary cutters do a great job. Tell me your thoughts.

You need to look beyond the obvious. One thing you buy with a store bought unit is liability protection if it fails and damages something or worse, someone. Neighbor sold cutter blades that failed, fractured and one launched 100 yards in the air, thru a wall and thru a man eating dinner. Killed him dead. You gonna have the insurance protection to save your butt if that happens to you with a tool you built? And don't think your business insurance will cover you - it won't. Unless your stated business is building cutters.

There's more to cutters than just the steel....

I'll shut up and let you get back to cutting and welding.

You might to check out www.skidsteerforum.com , several years ago there was a guy on there who built is own rotary mower and posted pictures of the build process.

I also absolutely agree with john_bud that you had better get some kind of liability insurance if you make this cutter yourself, and you'd better also have it if you use it for brush cutting jobs.

Thanks for the response guys, I'll have to definitely keep all the safety concerns in mind. I'll try to post some pics while I build or at least the finished product. It'll probably be another week or so before I can begin though.
