The inlaws wanted a deck, So since I am not working at the moment, they hired me to build it.

Drilled post holes and poured ~4" of concrete in the bottoms of the holes thursday night, then friday morning we went to menards and loaded the trailer down with lumber.

Got started on it about 10AM friday and worked til ~6:30PM, and then saturday we started ~7:30AM and finished it up around 5:30PM. And had to dodge a few rain showers in there as well.

12' x 32' and ~$1500 in material and heres how it turned out

Also, before anyone asks, the long posts are for a roof over the porch that will get tied in next year when they replace their existing roof on the house.

The deck looks great. You may want to tie the tops of posts together with some boards and brace them so they don't do the twist as they dry out. Rick

Thats the plan. Going to get some 2x12's for the header and go ahead and attach them, that way they are there in prep for the roof:thumbsup:

yep.

I dont like the 5/4 boards. And 2x6's arent any more expensive in total, considering 2x6's span 2' joists and 5/4 are for 16" centers. So the fewer joists and fewer screws = a wash. Cost is the same. I just like 2x6's better.

The 5/4 boards only look better for a year of so. I think the twist, cup, and split more so than the 2x6's
