I posted earlier this spring about advice on building a backstop. The league my son plays in doesn't have enough fields for the kids to practice on. After getting chased off of 3 fields in one day I asked the coach if he thought we had a big enough back yard to practice on. He took a look and said we could probably work something out. The first time was interesting. We had nothing, just a yard. Balls were everywhere and no bases. I thought we could do better son I asked around at work (Fab shop) for some scrap to make a makeshift backstop. The president of that company stopped over to see me a few days later. He took me around their yard and showed me some pipe and fencing. About 2 hours later he called back and said after thinking it over he wanted to do something better. He had an engineer lay something out. They fabbed up some brakets for the pipe and made me basically a backstop erector set, Once it was done "all" I had to do was dig some holes and put it together. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Fortunately I have a father who is still ok with helping his adult son out. We finished the backstop in June. The team practiced there the rest of the season. A few weeks ago I laid out a formal infield and mount. recently we had a whole bunch of kids there with their parents. The kids played ball, the parents ate and had a few adult beverages. Hope the pics inspire some other dad to do the same for their kid
