Seems like I didn't do all the research that I thought before just buying the 2544.

The thing I disliked the most about the 2544 was the hood design. I thought it looked bad and is inconvenient with those separate side panels. Bought it anyway for all of the other great reasons and now I discover that the 2006's will have that sweet front opening large hood design of the 1500 series. Add in the rumor of more leg room and tighter turning radius and it seems like I should have waited.

This always happens to me when I make a major purchase. I end up regretting not waiting.

It always happens like that - I like the side panels and such. makes it very easy to work on or service...
if you dont have enough leg room - that could be problem with no solution with that model year....

1. You can sell it or trade it in and most likely take a hit
2. Live with it
3. Shorten you legs, so you fit better? just kidding on this one

I am glad I bought my 2180 when I did. The metal hood is a heat sink, pulling heat away from the engine. Pulling off a side panel is simple and the hood unit doesn't vibrate like the plastic ones do. The plastic hood has the large openings on the side because its the only way to cool the engine.

Anytime MTD starts re-using parts from the parts bin I get worried. Nothing looks like a 2000 series, but 1000's, 1500's, Yardmans, Whites, Troy-Bilts all look the same, because they all share the same parts. If Cub is going to dip into the 1500 parts bin to remake the 2000 series, it will be interesting to see what effect that has.

I tell ya what...

I think there's alot of truth in what Mr Wiggles is saying. There is no comparison between a 1500 and a 2500 series tractor, but now CC is looking to take that ugly looking hood and slap it on a 2500??? Should be telling us something about CC maybe trying to cut production costs...

Be happy with your 2544...you have one of the best GT's available today.

Regards,

The plastic hood thing doesn't scare me at all. The plastic hood on our 1992 JD GT262 looked like new when we sold it 8yrs and many 100's of hours & abuse later. The fiberglass hood on our previous 1970 JD 110 held up to 20+ years of service as well. I'm more affraid of CC cheapening up the new 2006's. The current 2042+ are tough as nails. A tried and true design that been around for many years. MTD has got to try to make LT/GT's as inexpensively as possible to stay in the game. Hopefully they will still be treating the CC line as their premium line!

G/luck

Good points JT. I don't mind paying for quality. Don't cheapen up your products just to catch the eye of someone who could care a less what they are buying. I'm more than happy to pay the price for quality... just make sure it is.

Many interesting points here. You make me feel a lot better about buying the 2005 with your clear thinking.

On a different note:
Just noticed the website shows the frame in yellow but mine is black. I'm sure they are just using an older photo or something as I see the photos of "Jim_Zis" machine has a black frame too.

Yeah... must be an old photo. They switched to the black frame this year..... which I like.
