This is my first selfmade tractor part for the Ford 1720 I recently bought. You might have seen it in my stuck in mud thread. After running it through the the woods all weekend on my hunting lease I decided it needed a good sturdy bumper/grillguard.I was at first going to angle the ends of the bumper back a little but realized that would make it more likely for trees to slip behind the bumper and get hung up.Here is what I came up with. It's made from 1/4"x2" tube,1/4"x1 1/2" tube and 3/4"x2" flat steel. The 2" receiver I bought from Harbor Freight for 20 bucks. It is bolted on with (4) 5/8" grade 8 bolts after I drilled and tapped the bottom tube.Primed and painted with krylon epoxy enamel.I need to sand and fix some runs, got in a hurry to finish it.
I'm thinking about buying an electric winch and mounting it to a piece of 2" tube so I can put it in the receiver if I get stuck agin.I was looking at a Warn 3700 lb. model at norther tool.Do ya'll think that would be strong enough?
