This is my first selfmade tractor part for the Ford 1720 I recently bought. You might have seen it in my stuck in mud thread. After running it through the the woods all weekend on my hunting lease I decided it needed a good sturdy bumper/grillguard.I was at first going to angle the ends of the bumper back a little but realized that would make it more likely for trees to slip behind the bumper and get hung up.Here is what I came up with. It's made from 1/4"x2" tube,1/4"x1 1/2" tube and 3/4"x2" flat steel. The 2" receiver I bought from Harbor Freight for 20 bucks. It is bolted on with (4) 5/8" grade 8 bolts after I drilled and tapped the bottom tube.Primed and painted with krylon epoxy enamel.I need to sand and fix some runs, got in a hurry to finish it.

I'm thinking about buying an electric winch and mounting it to a piece of 2" tube so I can put it in the receiver if I get stuck agin.I was looking at a Warn 3700 lb. model at norther tool.Do ya'll think that would be strong enough?

Great looking bumper/grill!! Very professional looking and good craftsman ship. The 3700lbs. Warn winch will have no problem pulling you out of a sticky hole. Like the clevis style pins at the bottom. Keep up the good work. U need to build a loader for it now.

Thanks.I thought they would come in handy for tying it on the trailer.

You will have to tie the bolt of the shackle down or it will vibrate out and be lost.

Looks great! Wish I had some ability to fabricate stuff. I can think of all sorts of projects I want to do for my 790.

Very nice, You sure won't regret building that. In the life of the tractor you will still have some nice frontend tin.

Good lookin' welds. Are you a welder by trade? Good to hear from a fellow shooter too.

Great looking guard. I made on similar for my MF 165 but not nearly as extensive. Used 2" tubing and filled all the tubes with lead shot to add weight. Worked out great. Had to used the shop air jack to lift it into place.
Great build!

Thanks. Not a welder but have done quite a bit of welding at my job.Mostly with an old Miller 460 amp water cooled tig, or 250 amp mig.I used the mig on the bumper/grillguard.I'm in several gun and huntin forums so I just use the same name for all.Actually I bought the tractor to use on my huntin lease.
