Hi,

I am looking for info on how to remedy my bumpy pastures after the last two horrible wet and rainy winters, hopefully using equipment I already have. I have a 4-5 acre pasture with 2 horses on it.

I use my cultipacker to roll down the mole tracts.

I have a box blade and a chain harrow which drags behind the tractor.

Should I just go out there and start tearing up the bumps with the box blade? I can shut the horses out of the lower end of the pasture which is the problem area. I have the pasture divided into two with a fence and gate between halves.

Let the box blade shanks down all the way and shorten the top link. Make several passes (at least 50 to 1,000,000 passes) to loosen the soil. Set the shanks up and level blade using the top link. Make several passes to redistribute soil to low places, followed by harrow to smooth it all over.

Welcome to the forum!

:welcome:

I'm going to move your thread on over to the Projects section in case there is more to discuss.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

I too use a chain harrow year round to break up the horse droppings. What I've also done is invested in a ballast roller (with aerating spikes) to smooth out my paddocks and improve drainage.

Another thing that you can do is to subdivide your big paddock into 5-6 smaller ones IOT rotate your horses. It's less impact on the ground, cuts down on parasites and allows the grass to recover. I rotate my 'boys' every 10-12 days.

My new Neighbor just bought one. all brand new and shiny.

Our pasture too has lost the golf course look this winter.
