Burn Barrel that works

I could never get more than a year out of a 55 gal drum burn barrel before it rusted to pieces. Out of frustration, I cut the top off a 120 gal propane tank. That was over 20 years ago and I'm still burning trash in it today.

If you attempt this, DO IT SAFELY!! I removed the valve and filled the tank with water. I drilled 4 half inch holes and used a cordless Sawzall to make the cut. It took awhile to torch vent holes in the 3/16" thick steel sides. I thought about cutting slots as mentioned above to create the vortex effect but the holes seem to work ok.

The tank works very well as a burn barrel since it has a raised pedestal which keeps the hot metal from igniting dried grass.

SOME of those may be worth some money if you can find the right collector(s).

My wife went thru and got out all the blue/green ones and looked them up. Also all the ones that sealed with the wire handle. None worth more than $6.
