Burning of fluids in diesel engines... oil atf etc

I was wondering of creative mixing solutions for burning oil and other auto byproducts in diesel engines. I have several "junker" Vw diesel and cummins engines and was wondering if anyone had creative ideas on creating a pressurized filtration system to filter contaminates out and mixing diesel fuel with it to burn? simular to what cummins had out in early 90's?

And no i don't care bout these engines there junk so if i kill them nothing lost and yes the epa will hate me but i like smoke /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif the blacker the better lol..

I don't really know how that would work but am curious, give it a try and let us know how it turns out. Maybe I could burn that 50 gal or so of used hydraulic fluid I have.

I've put used oil into my fuel oil tank and burned it in my house furnace, but I wouldn't do it in a diesel engine. I think you'll end up with a lot of carbon from unburned hydrocarbons too heavy to burn by the diesel combustion.

Take your used oil to Autozone or Advanced Auto. They'll recycle it.

I'm sure you can find some ratio of diesel fuel to junk oil that will work fine. It may be surprisingly low, too, in warm weather. I would think cold weather might pose some problems, but now that I think about it, I've never seen gelled lube oil whereas I have seen gelled fuel oil.

I would start out at say, 80/20 then try successively higher percentages of trash until such a time as the engine can't digest any more.

Well train engines and some generators run "high" visc. fuel like the 3600 series engines etc.. not sure on spec i have a book somewhere its like a 20 or 30w engine oil almost i think but maybe thinking of something else.

I think i'll try at least 25% mix ratio cummins use to approve up to a 10% mix ratio that is limit due to epa and the sulfur content so i know it'll run at least 10%+.. why waste good fuel when its 1.50+ a gallon? I've tried it in a vw jetta yrs ago with ATF and some other oil but can't remember it ran ok as long as it was above 40 below that it had extended cranking before it'd fire u could tell a difference in running it..

There is a guy up on one of the alternate energy newsgroups that has a Gm diesel a 6.2 I think running a generator and he runs nothing but used ATF fluid in it which he gets free from the tramission shops. If I recall he may have to start it on regular diesel and then switch over after it gets hot.

I've seen a couple of trucking companies that actually metered their drain oil into the fuel tanks, namely Roadway Express.

The problem is that the piston crowns and ring lands get carboned up if the engine isn't working hard, (high combustion temps).

The other problem is the suspended contaimants in the drain oil like heavy metal, metal filings, etc. The fuel filter will filter them out, but the capacity of the filter isn't that large.

what i had in plan was a reusable wire mesh screen that i could wash out they have them down to about 5 or 1 micron one or the other.. and the carbonization i have thought of increasing injector timing granted i know carbonization and wear metals will be a major problem but like i said there pretty well junk engines anywayz they'll give out long before carbonization concerns are there.

Is the metered oil injection on cummins engines centinel program? i'm awaiting info from cummins on the rate of injection etc.. i have a C series engine i'd like to put that on but don't offer one for it.

I've 'heard' that large ships mix their waste oil into the diesel and burn it. Can't verify that...

Those large ships actually burn something like #6 fuel oil; I remember reading somewhere a long time ago. This stuff is like tar. Has to be kept warm to even pump it.
