My Sears lawn tractor is burning oil badly. It's an oldie but goodie. Worsened over time, really bad now.
Oil coming out muffler.
I noticed there is oil in the carb bowl as well.
Just ordered head gasket.
How can oil get in the carb bowl? I emptied it, restarted, oil in it again immediately.

Thanks for any help.

If you're getting oil out the muffler, that's more than a head gasket, it's likely worn piston rings, and maybe (likely?) valve guide seals. I'm not familiar with that engine, but completely trashed valve guide seals could allow oil back into the intake, then down into the carb bowl.

Sounds like time for a complete overhaul.

Piston rings or Cylinder bore worn. Excess pressure in the crankcase from worn rings. I would imagine the engine is completely rebuildable. If you don't fix the oil burning you'll burn an exhaust valve for certain.

Good luck, Fred
