At 4:30 on a Friday afternoon before a three day weekend, the burning question is:

How much beer would ole Chuck chug, if ole Chuck could chug beer?

It rained all day, so I won't be able to move dirt tomorrow as I had wanted. Consolation prize time!

I guess it would depend on if it was American beer or Canadian Beer /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Or maybe a fine homebrew! Say, when I was in Canada(Alberta, Kootenay and Jasper), I din't see many brew pubs... Although "Bud" may rein in sales, we have some mighty fine local brews.

It depends upon the size of the container. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Enough said....

Well lets see now....I surely agree that the average Canadian megabrew beats the average US megabrew. I'm smack in the middle of Bud country, but I do my best to avoid their standard stuff....some of the specialty Michelob brews aren't bad, as megabrews go. And I would prefer one of my homebrews, if I had some, darn it! Last year I didn't brew because we were going to move. This year I haven't brewed yet because we did move last year and I'm still trying to get into the new place, with more grass than some golf courses., plus remodelling the house. Today's job is to begin cleaning up after the construction to prepare for grass. It is amazing how much mess bricklayers leave behind. I hauled off about a pickup load of broken brick to where I'm putting in a culvert. I still have to move the extra left-over brick and try to figure out what to do about the mounds of semi-hardened mortar. Anyway, no brewing today! And, unfortunately, the size of the container isn't really the limiting factor in the equation. How much beer would ole Chuck chug, if ole Chuck could chug beer? These days, ole Chuck drinks a few slowly and then crawls off to bed./w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Thomas, hadn't heard about Miller being bought out. At least it wasn't AB! They already control so much of the beer market they're kinda like the Microsoft of hangovers! You can't even be sure your favorite microbrew isn't really owned by them.

Ah well. This morning my drink is coffee, and then into the mud to pull out yet more brick, pieces of wood, drink cups, rebar, nails, screws, teeth, hair and eyeballs....did I mention how messy bricklayers are?

Dang, Chuck, you're right. I haven't brewed once since I got the Deere. I've got the grain and yeast, but just haven't had time to get down to it. The decline in my brewing started with that Deere!

Well Bob, you got it on me. I think the grain I have is so old even the mice wouldn't eat it. And my yeast farm died a while back...I had a nice culture from a Red Hook hefeweisen that I was using quite a bit. Unless one of my brewing buddies still has it going it's gone until I find Red Hook hefeweisen again, and it doesn't seem to be available around here. About all I have the fixins for is some cider, if the sweet mead yeast I was going to use is still alive. I may try to get that going this weekend. At least it's fast and easy.

It's gotta be IPA all the way - when I first started tasting microbrews, then homebrews, I didn't like the hoppiness. But after all, they only use about 2 oz of hops per 10,000 gallons when they make Old Milwaukee, don't they? Now it's gotta have a good bitter bite, and a leafy aftertaste or nothing. We just finished (drinking) a batch of Pilsner-like product (made for guests), and a more hoppy lager (we don't really religiously follow styles). Now it's back to the old Samuel Adams' until we get a new one going. Man, I just made me go get one /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif. More than two makes me go to sleep.

Anyone got any brewing stories, or odd names? How about Burned Hand ale, Wild Hair Ale, Nancy's Surprise, and Night Crossing IPA? The first one should be self explanatory - we usually don't name them unless something funny happens, and we don't do labels, just number the caps and document the recipe.

I have to work tomorrow - you guys enjoy your holiday, and remember those who have & are serving their country (I know I don't have to remind most of you)

I called one of my ipas Gandhi's Revenge. The Indian graduate students seemed amused, though of course they didn't drink it.
