Hello I just joined because I am having an issue with my cadet 125 I bought off a co-worker. He said it worked when he parked it but I replaced the batt. and dont get any response from the machine. When I pulled the hood open I noticed the grey wire connected from the voltage regulator to the amp gauge was melted. So I replaced it and compared the wires to a diagram found on here with no positive results. Then I decided to just jump the generator straight to the batt and got the engine to turn over, then a puff of smoke off the grey wire lead on the regulator, and the new wire melted just before I sniped it.

Any ideas on the root of the problem? I obviously know the regulator is going to need replacment because of the burning but would the solenoid, amp guage or something else be the original cause of problems?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Deterioration of the wiring is a common problem in those old CC's. The wires will often vibrate and break at the regulator.

But I'm not sure why you're having the exact problem you're having. Have you tried asking at IHregistry.com?
