Don, I agree with most everything people have said to this point. I think the key is that you are in Florida and your sandy soil is going to react different than some of the other soil types in the country. There are some real horror stories about decaying organic matter buried and years later causing sink holes and such in clay soil. I'll bet the excavator has done this hundreds of times and would not be in business if it was causing problems in your area.
Me I would try to bury in as out of the way place as possible that had be accessed in the future to bring in fill if needed. Sounds like a couple of fun days with all that equipment on site. Hope you take some photo's and share with the rest of us.
