I've been looking for a bush hog and a box cutter for my tractor (Kioti CK-35). Found a fellow with a "Squealer" SQ600 5 ft. rotary cutter and RO-600 rollover box blade. Both are Bush Hog brand.

I've been able to find a new price for the squealer cutter online - $1250.00 but can't find a price on the RO-600 box blade online. I've checked the specs on both of them and they're a perfect fit for my tractor.

Fellow is asking $1500 for both. They are like new and seem to be top end quality. Is this a reasonable deal? Anyone know what the street price for a new RO-600 rollover box blade is?

Thanks!

I have no idea what the RO-600 is selling for, but if the cutter is worth $1250, the blade is for sure worth $250. Heck, I'll buy it for that and I don't even have anything to use it on.:D I would guess that the roll over blade is worth $1200-$1500.

That's a fair deal. I would guess a new blade like that around here is $700-800. Cutter can be bought for $950 new. So $1500 used is OK if in good shape.

The Bush Hog SQ series is just a great entry level mower.

I break EVERYTHING and I've been unable to break my SQ60 in 5 years now.

Seems a little high for used. That's what they sell for new. (for new you can get a warranty and pay sales tax  )

should be about 3/4 to 2/3 of new.
IMHO

Buy them if they're in good shape - and 'like new' suggests they are. I own the same medium duty bush hog and it cost me $1280 (with slip clutch) 2 years ago. My Woods box blade was about half that much. Both for $1250 and no tax seems a good deal to me.

Well, I bought them, got them both for $1250. They really are like new. Actually in better shape than some of the "new" stuff I've seen since many dealers stack 'em up, beat the daylights out of them, and leave 'em sit in the weather. Decals and warning stickers aren't even worn.

I decided I may as well go for stuff that I'm going to be able to use more than I work on. I looked at a lot of $400 5' "bush hogs" and most were beat to death and/or pepsi-can thin.

I've never used a rollover box blade. This thing weighs 680 lbs. How do y'all who have rollover boxes like 'em and any pointers in using one would be appreciated.

Reading about the Squealer reminded me that I need a shear pin for my little squealer bush hog. I am getting by with a bolt (I know, a big no-no:eek: ) for now. The shear pin is 2 1/2 inches long and 3/8 inch diameter. I tried finding one at the local Bush Hog dealer (Tractor Supply) but they couldn't come up with any part numbers or anything. I know I need one since the first one "sheared" when I found a ball of barbed wire in among some honeysuckle vines with the Bush Hog rotary cutter. I wouldn't want the same experience with the bolt I have in there now.

Does anyone know where I can get one (or several) ?

I'd start at Bush Hog&reg - Performance You Can Count On. Choose "parts->public" then on to selecting your model number and type of drive-shaft assembly. Buy 3 or 4, should last for years if ya stay away from the old barbed wire. That stuff has a nasty way of hiding though doesn't it!

The one I got has a slip clutch so I hope I don't have to worry with that as much as shear pins.

Dave, congratulations with your purchase, sounds like you got a good deal. I think that you would find that most anybody that has a roll-over box blade is very happy with it. As far as how to use them, well I will try to give a quick explanation. First off, I have found that the box works well with the sides parallel to the ground. When grading forward if you are just trying to move a lot of dirt, put the position control all the way down. The box will fill fairly quick and then take the dirt to where you want it and then you would usually raise the blade until the dirt flows out. Usually about an inch or so works for me. If you want to only remove a little dirt, then you need to use your position control to control the depth of the cut. All of this would be the same for back grading, just with the blade rolled over backwards. If the ground needs to be loosened up, use your rippers. I find that the rippers work best if the main part of the shank that goes through the box blade is 90 degrees to the ground. Another function of the box blade is to smooth out surfaces. It works very well to have the box rolled over for back blading and traveling forward using the back of the cutting edge to smooth things out. I usually have the position control all the way down when doing this.

I hope that some of this will help you to get started, but remember it takes practice, practice, practice to become familiar with your tools and what works best for you and your circumstances. Here are a few pics of mine. You might also find that a Top & Tilt setup would be very beneficial when using your roll-over box blade.;)
Good luck.

Just go to TSC (or whereever) and get a "high quality" made in china bolt

They break MUCH faster than the shear pin and for only pennies. The key is where it's made. If you actually get an American/Euro one, it won't break. (hmmm, funny that)
