I have a older Bush Hog rotary cutter I purchased recently. There are no stickers or plates showing model number of this cutter. It is missing the flex link or “C” bracket on the top link and I am having a difficult time locating one to purchase. Any help on same would be helpful. This is a very older model cutter.

If you can't find or fabricate one, ditch those flimsy bars from the top link pin to the rear that they put on those brush cutters. Replace with 2 chains and then hook the top link to the top link pin on the A frame of the cutter. You'll still have the same effect as the flex link, except with a lot more movement.

Similar to this:

Have. Photo or two of the rotary cutter available and call Bush Hog and ask for their assistance.

I've seen those cutters with the chain links to the rear of the deck and notice that the manufacturer of the rotary cutter I have still uses solid straps with a pivot at the 3pt toplink location. It is said to allow 15 degrees of movement at the rear. I understand what it is trying to accomplish but do chain links allow too much movement on rugged terrain possibly running the front of the cutter into the ground? Is the main advantage of using chain cost?

My concern with the chain setup is that you could potentially over angle the joints in the pto shaft, resulting in a catastrophic failure under load.

A cousin did that mod, then cut a length of water pipe to fit over the chain to limit movement so that would not happen. Shoot, that was perhaps 25 years ago.
One can accomplish the same thing by cutting off a section of the OEM steel straps and inserting a short length of chain on one end.

It takes a lot for those U joints get on a bind. I've pushed mine so far up, it was close to 80 degrees and still wasn't even close to bind any of the joints.

I could still raise mine a bit more in this picture. Now imagine reversing to an embankment, it will push that cutter even further up.

Does anyone know where to buy the flex link? That is the information I was looking for.

I had located this part but from the pictures I don’t see the metal tab that keeps the attachment from moving to far. I may have to try this, for it would be better than what I have now. Thank you for the response.
