Can anyone suggest a size and brand name of a good bush hog for my YM1900? I will be using it to keep the woods at bay (mountain laurel and small brush) around my house and pond (about 13 acres). I guess I want the most torque I can get. Is there a better brand than others? Is there a name brand that is ideal for YM 1900s and that won't keep catching on the AG tires I have? Thanks in advance.

I would put a 4' on it.

I've used a Howse Med. 4' RC on my 1610D and my 2010D. Unit perfomed well to saplings of 1.5" or so. Performed well on 1610, better on 2010; 2010 feels like it might be able to go a 5 RC', but the 4' fits the tractor well, and lets me get into the tight woods I have.

The KK 4' RC units I've seen seem as well made as the Howse if not better. Landpride and BH look like even heavier models, but there are many good makes for RC. I'd just avoid off brands.

To keep from catching on your tires, make sure your sway/check chains are correctly adjusted. snug is safer. And I'd recommend chains,if you can afford them or can fab them up. It does raise the price a bit, but if you're working near people or buildings (100') it's required.

Like several others, I'd suggest a 4' model.

My Howse cutter has served me well and the only complaint I have is I suspect the gear box uses straight cut gears, noisy. I don't have any brush or saplings to deal with. My 5' model on my tractor is an easy load, I almost don't know it's back there power wise.

I have a 4' on my 1700 and itt works well. With a 5' it will probably be wider than the tractor. You will have to be careful about hitting things too.
