I am repairing a bush hog 1610. I am trying to remove the 2 stump jumpers from the gear box shaft's. I have the unit upside down, I am using a large puller bolted to the drum where the blades bolt. I have used some heat on the drum but I am afraid to ruin the seal on the bottom of the gear box. The reason for the drum removal is to replace the entire deck with 1 piece of plate. Has anybody had any luck with removal? The shop foreman at the local dealer says they are so difficult to remove that it is cheaper for them to cut the shaft, rebuild the gearbox, repair the deck and then replace with new drums [stump jumpers]! Anybody have any luck removing stump jumpers? Paul.

I've used a sledge hammer the hit on the stump jumper to knock it loose. Also a couple of large pry
bars will help in breaking it loose. Since it is upside down I would try a bottle or floor jack to get it
off. It is on a tapered shaft either with splines or a keyway. On one really stubborn bushhog I used
a skid steer and forks to pry it loose.
