What are you guys seeing for prices on these things. I went and looked over the weekend. I need a 6 footer. I wanted a 286 but it has been replaced with the 296. They had a 7 foot squealer but it has 65HP gear box and I kind of wanted a 90 or above.

Anyway they wanted $2900 for the 296 and $2400 for the SQ172. Have they gone up that much or is this guy dreaming? He also mentioned some steel surcharge of $300+.

Anyone know the prices in their area? Thanks

I paid about 3 grand for my 296 last july (with chains and tax)

so, yes that price sounds right.

The 296 is a commercial class mower (You can hit anything and it's keep going), it's top of the line.

Do you really need that for just your property?

The price for the SQ172 seems high. I would call around.

Are the prices with or without chain guards?

Haven't checked prices lately. I bought a SQ172 about a year ago, and it cost ~$1700 w/o guards. Hard to believe the steel prices went up that much!

last year i wanted to buy a new Bush Hog 296 but had to go with a John Deere MX6 instead(long story, but it had to do with Deere financing rules). i asked my salesman anyways what the price difference between the two was because i sure wasn't going to pay MORE for a mower i didn't want in the first place. it was within $100 difference he said and my MX6 cost $2,200. so maybe the 296 cost $2,100 or 2,300, i don't know but if what he said was true then those would be the prices. your prices do seem high, and i'm just guessing that might be with front and rear chain guards? if not then it deffinatley is a little high. if they won't come off the price any, ask them to throw on a set of front and rear chain guards and see what they say.

I know it is a smaller model than what u are looking at but i bought a SQ 160 about a year ago and gave $1100 for it. So that seems a little high for a 172 IMHO

I just bought a brand new 285 about a month ago. I gave $1750 for it with the front belting/guard. Nothing on the rear. It was a 'cash and carry' deal. I didn't get a receipt, but I got my full warranty w/ papers.
Your prices are up there.
