Clarification for all. The 280 series, 285,286 & 287 are still built by Bush Hog. The 290 series did not replace the 280 series. The 280's have structure on top and the 290's are clean top units.

I noticed that the price on rotary mowers seems to jump dramatically when you go from a 6' to a 7'.

That is correct, and the gear boxes are made in China for Bush Hog.
