I have a Kubota BX 23 that I am lookint to buy a tiller for. THe local dealer has a 50 inch Bush Hog for sale for $1500.

1. Any opinions of the quality of this tiller?

2. Is that a fair price?

Thanks for your help!!

that sounds like the tiller i got last year for 1300 or so. so far its has worked good. i wish i could offset it a little more but it does the job.
be aware that bush hog doesn't really make the tiller.

who's the dealer. 1500 for a new 50" tiller sounds like a good deal.

I'm not sure who makes it but I think there's some Italian company that makes a lot of the tillers sold here under various badges.

I had a Bush Hog RTS40 that cost $1,300 in 1995 so I'd say $1,500 for a 50" would be a good price. Mine sure saw a lot of heavy duty use and never had a problem.

look at the tines there is another post going here about yanmar tillers. if the tines are small and thin they will break if this unit looks well built and has good tines i'd say buy it. how heavy is it that is another consideration when thinking about penetration or controlling bounce in hard soil or when you hit something.

I heard bush hog was in potential bankruptcy a few months ago. Are they still in trouble?

Bush Hog builds all of the RTS series. The RTC is purchased but has an excellant history. I just never hear of any complaints about it. If it is an RTS50, that is an excellant price at '09 prices. If it is a RTC48, it is still a good buy.
Bush Hog was never going into bankruptcy and is not now. There are several companies who are interested in buying the Bush Hog company. I think Bush Hog was slow to downsize in this new economy; hence, the shutdown in Janauary. I understand that production began again in mid March and continues.
