my 1952 ford 8n handles a 5' mower.. and it HAD 27 hp.. when it was built.. 61 years ago.
you COULD be in ld 6' teritory if you wanted.
I've run 6' mowers with 1954 -1957 NAA and 600 series fords. again.. 33hp 50something ys ago..

Got a tractor about the same size as yours and run a 5 footer with no problems. Actually the smaller tractors are easier to maneuver in fields near woods. Anything your bush hog can handle your tractor can also handle.

If it starts boggin down in thick grass, move over a little, you don't have to cut the full width.
I had a 7 footer on a 40 hp, did OK. :thumbsup:

I had a B2920hst. PTO was about 21 hp I think. I ran a 6' brush hog with no problems. Would I recommend this, absolutely not. It's what I could get my hands on at the moment and I took my time cutting. I then was able to use a 4' brush hog and it was amazing whipping it around.
I now have a L3540hst (37hp PTO 30hp) I won't hesitate at all using the 6'. Your tractor will handle the 5' with ease. As with anything you use. Use it properly and take your time when learning the implement.

go for it.
I have a few 0-200$ hogs i bought cheap / free.. did some welding or fabbed up some parts.. seals.. lube.. etc.. paint and they cut just fine.
and in the bad jobs cutting sticks and rocks.. those ar e the ones I back in first with.. not the more spendy ones.

From what I've been told, you want 5 PTO horsepower for every foot of implement.
So, if you have 30 PTO hp, then a 6' implement will be fine. However, I've also seen that, depending on the implement and environmental conditions, you can adjust that ratio down (say for a finish mower on grass you can go like 4 PTO hp per foot) ... or you should raise it up (say you're using a tiller in very hard soil, or brush hogging down some crazy thick stuff - then you might want to to 6-7 PTO hp per foot).

thanks guys I had a guy give me a 5 foot panther that was rusted out but gearbox was good and so was tail wheel so I bought a 5 foot andy500 and I have an extra gear box from the panther as they seem to be the same gearbox I just finished my first job it worked great except on the palmettos as they bogged it down a little. I bid on 2 more jobs,
