Were the timbers rotted from moisture getting in along the 'way'?

The walls will be insulated from the inside with fiberglass insulation. I need to rewire the house and decided to do both at the same time. I would assume that the rotted beams are from water leaks over the years. I know there are no leaks at the present time as the beams are dry now. The beams were also chewed out by animals and carpenter ants at one time or another. I've been sprying all the beams with bug killer as I go along.

Sounds good.
Carpenter ants only 'chew' on wet or decayed wood, not dry solid wood. They are a great indicator of a problem with moisture getting into an house, as the carpenter ants know where it is and can be used to point it out.

Hope you get closed in for winter. You do good work, and its not the kind I like to do, but has to be done sometimes.

The house will be closed in for winter for sure. Thanks for the comliments on my work. I wish I was getting paid for all of it. I am in a way but it would be nice to see the green

Silly question but did the bushes survive the transplanting? I may attempt a simmilar transplanting next year but on a larger scale (20-30 bushes).
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Hi Dan,

ALL the bushes survived the transplant. The Rodo's flowered great this year. The evergreens are still alive as well. I dug the holes with my tractor bucket for the transplant and my daughter and I just buried them. From now on they are on their own in the woods by the roadside. We saved 4 out of 6 bushes. The other 2, I couldn't pop out of the ground. I cut them off with my chainsaw. Here's where the house is at now. The reason the siding is not done below the right window is because I need to repair that roof. Both will be done together.
