Tractor
MF 1540 4wd,loader, R-4s
Well I took my 1540 MF to get fixed today and i was looking around and seen a bushhog Bh950 backhoe with 16" bucket power beyond hydraulic hook-up and 3-point mount. The guy that had it before traded it in, it has only 2hrs on the hoe the paint is mostly still on the bucket. They want $5900.00 for it.

1) yes i know this is little big for this tractor it rated for 55-100hp tractor.
The dealer said use subframe and watch what i am doing and said i would be all right, sinse i run equipment everyday at work i should have enough know-how.

2) They don't make subframe for this hoe/tractor combination. Not a big deal my unkle has welding bussiness and we can build one real easy.

3) This thing weighs 1600lbs?? I won't be hauling this thing around all the time so shouldn't be big deal.

My questions are: Is this a good price? A new one is around $7000-8000 for a Bh850.
Will this hoe be allright on the tractor. I have loader.
Would it be possible to switch the controls around to Cat style controls?(this is what i run daily)
What factors should i keep in mind when building a subframe?

I know this is long post, but tryed to get it all in.

Thanks, Ryan

Sounds like a good deal on a near new unit. Just be sure to have that Uncle of your's weld up a stout (extra stout) 4 pt subframe that will handle all the stress. Over-hoe-ing a tractor is a sure way to wreck the tractor.

Thanks for the advice Jb, The hoe is a 2004 model, and i inspected the unit over, and the paint is wore off the teeth but the inside of the bucket has almost all the paint on it. The stabilizers still have paint on them, it like new and i believe that has around 2 hrs on it, they said this guy usually trades stuff in every yr and keeps swithching things around, why? i don't know.

I am kinda of thinkin a little bit about the size of this hoe, will my 1540 handle this as far a movin around without over taxing it, i know it will be borderline. But with this hoe i could always mount it on my 1130 massey if needed.

My uncle builds lowboys and all kinds of heavy, very intensive custom built jobs, hints the name Custom Welding i guess, lol.

I have not been around a subframe mounted hoe so i ain't sure where it mounts at on the tractor, and what the weak points are, and what some tips would be in mounting it. The tractor already has a frame running from the mid-mount loader to the rear end so this will help keep things together too.

I will post somemore question here later, don't want to ask to many at once, lol

Thanks, Ryan

Well i am probally going to order the power-beyond kit today, and going to try to go to the bank tomorrow and get money. I am just wanting to make sure i ain't makeing a stupid decision here. I want the hoe on a subframe for sure.

I just need some advice on where the best points are to mount it. Will four attachment points be enough, i am thinking about the subframe being mounted to hoe with bolts, and then just having something on the rear end of the tractor for the frame to sit in and putting 2- 1" bolts in the front attachment point at the loader mounts. Would this work? I also want to leave the 3-point arms on.

Custom hoe subframe....a huge subject and a favorite of mine.

Check out other postings on this subject. One thing that is kind
of new here is changing the valve order on your stack valve assembly.
This is how you change to a different (e.g. Cat-style) control setup.
Sometimes, just changing hoses can give you what you want. Note
that some of the individual valves have built-in reliefs, most likely
in the swing control. The "normal" order is: left joystick, boom
up/down & swing. Right joystick is bkt curl left/right and dipper
in/out. What is the Cat and Case configuration?

This will more than likely be a waste of time to post this but. That hoe will have the front end of your tractor off of the ground because of its weight and as far back as it is. Even if it doesn't when sitting still it will you go over any kind of bump. It is way to heavy. Second, it is strong enough to tear your tractor up. It isn't if it will, it is only a question of when.

Well on cat controls the boom and dipper switch sides. As for a waste of time Jerry, no i ain't made any actions at getting this hoe, i have been thinking the same thing you are, it is just to big for that tractor, there ain't no other way of putting it. I have been thinking of the weight factor the most, it will pretty much make the tractor useless for loader work while hoe is attached, cuz u will be in the low gears all the time.

I am thinking about pricing the Bh850 hoe, this would be little better i would think. What do you guys think? They have a bh756 hoe that is still on the skid and has been there for 4 yrs, they said it's already bought and paid for but never picked up??? Would this be a better size? And i might also get a good deal if can get figured out what the story is on it.

I just called the dealer, and said that the bh950 was to big for my tractor, and i asked about that Bh756 that has been on a skid for 4 yrs, he said it is paid for and the guys owes money on other things thats why it ain't been picked up yet. He has got to talk to this guy next week and is going to ask about this hoe, if he wants to sell it, or whats going on. While i was on there i priced a new Bh850, he said he just got one in with 3point mount, and power beyond hook up,12" bucket, he said he would take $6195.00 for it.

Would the 756 have problems for siting that long? (seals, hose, etc) It is little rusty.

Which size would be better?

Sorry about all the questions.

Ryan, how much does the 1540 you have weigh? Including the
FEL. I am not familiar with MF tractors. You are wise to ask a
lot of questions.
