I'm still busy as heck, but I do a variety of things. The guys who aren't diversified and depend upon only one kind of work are laying off and shutting down.

Most of my work is word of mouth and repeat customers. If you cultivate a good relationship with your best customers, they will keep you busy. I am amazed at some of my competition and the way they treat their customers. Keep them happy, it pays off.

Im with you. I have been working on 76 home subdivision cutting lot lines. Just looking for some new business. I do treat my customers great. The slow economy seems to hurt everybody.

You might want to try advertising in a bigger area (if you're not) I drive over an hour to a lot of my jobs...

From our manufacturer's point of view, after a few slower-than-usual months (March to mid-June), sales are coming back good. We're used to up's and down's, and industrial brushcutters are not for everyone anyway... But it does feel good nonetheless when people go further than the proposal stage :D

Wishing those of you looking for contracts that they start coming back to you soon... :)

and for those with contracts already, buy a machine from us!!! :p

Don't know what market you guys are in, but I'm a General Contractor, and I'm turning down more work then I can handle. Gave myself a raise and I'm booked up into October right now. I've never been this busy before and it's all word of mouth. I really want to work less and spend more time doing stuff on the land, but I can't even keep up with my mowing due to my commitments to my clients.

With the slowdown of home sales, it seems more people are fixing up what they have and I've become the guy who does this for allot of them. It might be lucky timing for me, but I also got lucky with a few clients who have friends that they have been telling about me. One good client can give me a dozen other jobs!!!

I'm working for a church right now and have months of work to do on it, but it's when I'm free and I can pretty much come and go with them. Their members are starting to hire me and ask for my card.

I don't know too much about church's, but this one has been added onto many, many times. It's a mish-mash of all sorts of styles and workmanship. The previous guy couldn't figure it out and just sort of covered up the problems without fixing them. Contractors cut corners or just plain didn't do what they should have. Unfortunately, church's fall into that catagory where people see big money and take advantage becasue nobody who works there knows any better. They tend to be trusting and naive to a certain degree.

Kind of like elderly clients. They get taken advantage of allot too, but they are the bulk of my clientel and after I finish for them, they tell their friends.

If you are slow, try doing small favors for people at a discount to break even and get your name out. Once that happens, it will snowball. At least that's how it's worked for me.

Good luck,
Eddie

On the medical end... things have definitely slowed after a busy November and very busy December.

Thanksgiving to New Years was traditionally the slow time during the Holiday Season. This has changed in large part because of the way insurance is now handled.

The busy time for Elective and Out-Patient Surgery is now towards the end of the year because many people have already met their deductibles for the year.

A lot of patients cancelled starting the first week of January when they found out they would need to pay a new deductible... it typically ranges anywhere from a few hundred dollars to as much as $5000.

How much does an operator get? I would consider myself experienced!
