Call affordable tomorrow. I broke the top plate that holds the top link of my 3 point. Got a brand new one overnight cheaper then the welding shop quoted to weld.

And welding cast is a 50/50 venture.

Knuckle is one part I have not yet broken, lol broke lots of others tho. here is one of the closest ones.

and the front drive axle (broke the same side 2 times)

You could probably weld it using NI rod and AC welder, heat parts up hot enough to burn out the grease out of the pores of the metal. grind out enough of the broken parts and stick it back together with the NI rod & peen the weld about every inch to knock off the slag and peen the weld to reduce stress. as soon as the last weld is done & peened cover it up w hot sand to keep it from cooling too fast.

Thanks for the quick replies and to Affordable tractors parts.Had the part in stock .Will bring the old one to work and see if our welder can patch it up for a spare.Had a **** of a time getting back to the garage after it broke.Had to lift the front wheels to re-position every so often. Thanks Diamond seems your right about these guys.

If that part is in fact cast iron, you'll be wasting your time welding it - it will never be as strong as original and probably much weaker.

Hi,

When I broke my first left steering knuckle on my 554 tractor I welded it up and managed to get all of 30 hours out of the repair. It was enough time to bring in a new replacement one. I am sure holding the repaired one as a spare would be fine, but don't expect to get too many hours out of it.
I am certain these steering knuckles are a design fault and Jinma just isn't interested in redesigning a replacement - make too much money selling older replacement parts!
Seems strange but the life of these components vary with owners. I don't know if the part develop cracks early on and go undetected and eventually fail in use. It doesn't seem to matter how well you maintain the tractor - the failures seem to be at the most inconvenient times.

Yes well Im pretty good with maintenance but i think it was a combination of things .The tractor is up there in years. Its a 1993 and first busted knuckle. It was -32 Celcius out and i was trying to get
unstuck by pushing myself backwards with the bucket. And turning the steering left and right while spinning.
Can't win them all.

I would not hesitate to weld it up, but then I can weld pretty good & have much of my life... There is plenty of room to build up the units so don't hesitate to take after it and use it as a learning experience if nothing else.

heck I have 2/3 of my back hoe hyd cylinders re-welded the rod ends on them, ;) Broke one myself by banging on a BIG rock while at near full extension (rock was down in the creek & I wanted it out.) My brother did the other one..

Welding is not hard takes some practice but with Youtube you can see how to weld about anything.

on my old jinma 254, I welded the steering knuckle 2 times, the first one was with a mig at 180A a it lasted 2 days... the second time was with 7018 (not intended for cast iron!) rod DC+ and I preheated the part in the BBQ for 2 hours, did my weld, and then I burried the part into a bucket full of sand. worked for 6 months...I had ordered a new part but it never gave up.
