I just had a long weekend. Last Thursday was a furlough day, Friday and Monday were holidays (Lincoln & Presidents day) and my wife was out of town presenting a seminar all 5 days. Five days of nothing but me and the tractor.
Accomplishments:
Accomplishments:
- Extended water pressure line to out behind the barn so I don't have to keep dragging hoses. Two hundred feet of 1" pvc trenched in. Put 2 hose bibs along the way
- Laid 200' of 1" poly over the pressure line to irrigate future wind break trees. The wind never seems to stop blowing out here.
- Plowed in another 400 LF of 1" poly down to other end of the house for future windbreak trees.
- Before I could plow in the poly I had to build reel that would smoothly feed the poly as I plowed. Built this out of some old window C channel header material left over from my steel building and some electrical conduit. Drove a fence post through the "center bearing" and a piece of plywood for a working surface and it fed just fine.
- Had to build a "puller" for the middle buster to attach the poly to. I had a piece of left over cutting edge from a rear blade and used a piece about 4" wide to create the "hole" that the poly fed into.
- No down force on the middle buster so I had to make weights and an attachment for the middle buster. I salvaged some plastic bases, the kind you fill with water that were used for temporary volley ball nets from one of our schools that we demo-ed. The large ones were 75# when filled with a mixture of mortar mix and pea gravel and the smaller ones were 45#. I how have 240# of down force for the middle buster.
- Plowed in 100 LF of 1/2" poly to the other side of the garden.
- Planted 6 berry bushes, 2 raspberry, 2 blackberry and 2 blueberry at the end of the new irrigation.
- Put water walls around the new plant and then chicken wire to keep the black tailed hares out.
- Installed a new irrigation sprinkler control box with space for 3 valves and a pressure regulator.
- Had a storm on Thursday night that did the usual damage to my dirt roads. Had to regrade and recondition about 1,600 LF.
- Didn't shave for 5 days.
