Tractor
Kubota B6100E
Now that I have finally moved into my new place and need to use my old but shiny B6100E for more than mowing I need a FEL. Understanding that a small tractor can do only small bites, but don't know if it is wise to try to put one on this small 2WD model - that is if I can find one.

Interested in learned opinions on logic as well as safety.

Thanks

Dave; What you probably find is that the cost of a loader will make you wonder if it is a wise move. To put 3000 dollars into a 25 year old machine has to make you think of the financial logic. My brother was in the same situation with a MF 1010. He had owned it since new, and it was in excellent shape. The cost for a loader was 3400 dollars, or he could trade in on a new Kubota B2400 for 10,000. The Kubota was bigger, had power steering, and hydro (all handy options for loader work.) He made the trade.

I strongly suspect that you will not be able to find a FEL for the B6100D or B6100E. I have found that they are no longer available for the B7100D or B7100E while they were available (at least in 1998 or 1999) for the newer design B7100HSD. If you find someone who says they are available, confirm that the model they are looking at fits the GEAR drive models (E or D suffix), not just the HYDROSTAT models (HST, HSD, or HSE suffix).

And like you suggest, even if you could find one you will have the contend with the disadvantages of...

(1) Gear drive
(2) Manual Steering
(3) 2wd
(4) Low engine horsepower

Good luck,
Kelvin

As others mentioned, it's $3000+. I added a Bushhog Loader to my late 80's B8200 a couple years ago. It has worked out great! But, my B8200 has Hydrostat and most of the newer features.

I'd way what you could sell it for, with the cost of what you would replace it with. Even for a new tractor, the loader is a $3000-3500 option, no matter if factory supplied or aftermarket.

Sounds like you already have the answer to your question. You will probably will be happier with a new larger machine and on a compact, 4wd is almost mandatory to get the most out of your machine. I didn't get 4wd on my MX5000 but it has a little bit of weight and for what I am going to use it for I don't need 4wd

popeye,
How do you like that MX5000? Have you got use to using the clutch when you shift yet? After using a GST version, I think going to a transmission like the MX5000 has, would take some getting use to. Also, did rear (near the PTO) hydraulic connector outlets come standard with your Mx5000?

Thanks for all of the feedback. Better start scraping the bucks together for the trade - and save the big jobs until after.
