Do most people buy their attachments (disk, brush hog, box blade, spreader, sprayer) from the dealer selling the tractor or from another source? This is in the 50-75 hp tractor range.

Delta Dave:

Welcome to TBN :D! Sometimes a dealer will "package" attachments at reduced price with the tractor sale. I tend to shop around and try to get the best "deal", but nothing seems cheap in MA  and :(. Jay

I also tend to shop around. I have a few favorite equipment dealers, including the one I bought the tractor from. Different dealers sell different brands, so I see what is available from who, and if something has been sitting around a bit too long, so much the better for me (price-wise that is). I don't like to keep all my eggs in one basket.

I shop around also. For an example I am getting a 6ft BB today. I priced it at TSC for $495.00 and the my local Kubota dealer for $395.00:D

Shop until you drop. It's all about the accessorizing!

Value is found in many places in addition to a dealer's showroom, or his back lot.

Shop at places you'd like to see open. For my camera stuff I do my research online and I order online - as a result the local camera shops suffer.

For tractor stuff I go to the dealer when I can because I want to build the relationship (I hope to buy a larger tractor sometime) and I want to keep the friendly dealer there. If there was a TSC nearby I may check them out as well, but lacking a local alternative I'd rather spend a few extra bucks at the dealer than travel or order online. I've noticed that the more stuff I buy from the dealer the higher priority my orders seem to be and the more likely I am to get freebies like free delivery. Even if I spend a little extra, they greet me by name when I walk in and that counts for something :)

Jeff, that counts for more than something in my book, be very happy that you have a dealer like that. Good working relationships are hard to find, give him as much business as you can afford.

Yep the more business you give him, the more he just may knock off on the price of what you plan on buying from him.

Shop around. Especially if you're looking for 'simple' attachments. I'm lucky in that I have every color dealer and two TSCs within 35 mi. of the farm. Things like BB's, drag harrows, etc that don't have a lot of moving parts can be picked up for a lot less than dealership prices if you're willing to burn a little shoe leather. Of course, if its a backhoe or a round baler, go with an established dealer. Parts and repairs might be needed down the road, and from personal experience, a dealer is happier to work on something that he sold you.

No offense to anyone, but I think that if you have to buy good service and a friendly attitude from a dealer by spending all your money there, then there's something wrong. Good service is good service whether I'm buying a tractor or a filter for that tractor.

Unless I need it now, I prefer the used route
