Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

I also noticed that they had only bought stuff before. And I was thinking, that could be one way that ebay could control these bogus auctions. If a person only buys things, and then lists an item for over, say, $1000, that should fly a red flag for ebay to look at and investigate. Wouldn't take long for them to realize that this is a bogus auction. However, that would cut back on their listings, in turn cutting back on their income. And they may not want to do that.

Note also the "Free shipping worldwide for this tractor", and then scroll down to shipping section "Buyer pays for all shipping costs...will ship to United states, Australa, asia, Canada"

Hmm... maybe Africa, South America, Europe, ceded from the earth?

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

SHE IS STILL OUT THERE! I just heard from her, selling a 1999 JD 855 (Low Hours) w/FEL for $3300. I knes it was too good to be true, but it is nice to know I was not just passing up the deal of the century. Thanks. BTW, what is a good reasonably price for a JD 855?

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

I think these folks "highjack" legit E-Bay user ID's and use them to successfully sell their scams due to high feedback. That happened to my wife's account. Someone from Canada took over her account and had some auctions posted. We found out the day it happened, so nothing bad happened. Can't trust the feedback. Always use a credit card through PayPal or an escrow service.

BTW there's a great deal on a NH TC33D (only $3100 to "buy it now!"

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

I'm surprised ebay hasn't come up with some other way to
verify these things. The "pre-approved bidder" is a tell-tale
sign.

Fortunately the morons doing this aren't smart enough to
offer the item at a GOOD price but not a RIDICULOUS price.
I'm 2000 miles west, if I was near that I'd certainly
go "buy it now" for $3100. I don't need another tractor
but heck for $3100. Anybody out that way that wants to
go get a GREAT deal on a tractor (yeah right) Maybe in
small print, or in white text it says "You are buying
the brochure only..."

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

About that $3100 New Holland (there was another one for $3200 from the same seller), I sent him a message through the EBay message center suggesting that the price was suspiciously low. I received this response this morning:
-----------------
Hi,

I know there are many offers on eBay and I appreciate your intention to buy one of my tractors.
I have to tell you that my location is Netherlands and the machines are here too. The shipping will be done via ocean freight, then once the tractor will arrive in the US, it will be truck forwarded to your location. The shipping takes 14-18 days, depending on departure days of the boat.
The tractors are american models and I'm interested to close the deal with a fair price for both sides. The price includes shipping to your location and it's as follows:
- 2001 New Holland TC33D with backhoe&front loader - $3100- US
- 2001 New Holland TC40D with loader - 4X4 - Hydro - $3200- US
If you will take both tractors the price will be $5900- US
Before shipping takes place you have to make a deposit for the entire amount. Please note that I will not ship until the deposit is made. The idea is that I don't require a payment in advance, only a payment proof that you have the money and you intend to buy it.
If you don't like the tractor, no question asked, you will cancel the deposit and I will arrange to ship it back no later than 3 days from its arrival.
I look forward to doing business with you. Hopefully this will make us both happy.
Let me know, I would like to close it ASAP.
------------------------------------
When I looked this morning, both listings were gone, even though there wasmore than a day left on them, last night.

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

That "tractor is in XXX country" is how most of the scams
usually are. Typically if someone is selling from France or
wherever, their selling location is also LISTED as France.

Some of these even allow you to just send a deposit which of
course is history, or they want full payment, or there is
another type of scam using Western Union money transfers.

If there is really something you are interested in, ask them
to take picture of the tractor with a newspaper on the hood
or a chair next to the tire or something. They can't since
they don't have the tractor.

Or just say you are XXX state and want to come see it immediately.
You usually get the same answer.

As someone else posted, these are sometimes from an auto-responder
and ANY email you send to them get's the same response.

Re: BUYERS:WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS ON E-BAY!!

Don - I had sent an email to that seller for the NH to verify the pricing on the chance that he had mistyped the buy it now price and received the same e-mail response that you did. I liked his definition of a "deposit" - the entire amount. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I was tempted to e-mail him back and tell him that my family has recently been overthrown in a political coup in Africa and I need to wire millions of dollars out of the country and if he would forward his bank routing information then I would give him a percentage of the money! (I'm sure nobody else has gotten one like this before.)

I sent one an inquiry, my simple question to them was "Do you have a dog?"

My response was almost identical to the one listed above about the tractor being in Netherlands...hmm..I thought the ad said US somewhere...

They never did tell me if they had a dog and that's all I really wanted to know /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
