I'm buying a Mahindra 485DI for $4850.00 (tax included). The S/N is 2487.
Can anyone tell me the year of this machine?

Are they good, solid machines?

Thanks,

Hey,

I'm from Livingston, LA. I have a 485 too. Don't know my serial number but the tractor is a 97'. I bought it from Singleton Sales & Service on Hwy. 10 in Franklinton a couple years ago for $6600. It had 879 or so hours on it when I purchased. I have got 1161 hrs. on it now. I'm the 3rd owner. Has been a very tough, powerful and reliable tractor. I hope you like yours as much as I do mine.

Hey Travis, Thanks for the reply. I'm from the other side of the state,
near Lake Charles.

Do you have any filter cross-reference numbers for Air, Fuel and Oil Filters?
Any other tips you've found out would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Yes,

The only cross-reference numbers I have is for the ENGINE OIL FILTER.

1......CARQUEST # 85775
2......DONALDSON # (I'll have to go look in my shed for that one on one of my spare filters. Although I think it starts with the letter "P".)

Matter of fact, you might have the Donaldson filter on yours right now......Thats the brand that my Mahindra dealer sales.

How many hours is on your tractor? As of today I have 1163 hrs. on mine....From April 8th til' today, i've put 53 hrs. on it.( I write on my oil filter when my next oil change is due.)....I have one regret when I bought my tractor. I wish I would have bought a 6' Bush Hog instead of a 5'.

Mine has been very reliable and stronger than what I thought. Will absolutely positively buy another Mahindra when this one bites the dust.

I'm fixing to update my old thread on how my tractor has been doing. You can probably find useful information there.

My 485DI is showing 442 hours on the meter. I haven't used it much yet, but it seems to run well.
The paint is faded, so I'll paint it soon. I plan to buy a 6-ft bushhog to
use with it.

Where do you check / fill the hyd fluid?

Thanks,
John

I purchased a used 485 di but it did not come with the operator manual. I have went to the local dealer and bought all filters. I have a call into the dealer and plan on purchasing a owners manual.

The vitals I am looking for are oil type and level check:
Gear box
Axle

I have changed engine oil just want to keep up on other service. Any other regular service items please let me know.

Here's what I found out:

Trans/Rear End - 80/90 wt gear oil

Hyd System - 30 wt non-foaming hyd fluid

You fill the trans fluid next to the gear shift lever.
The Hyd fluid is filled at the plug located at the right rear top corner under the operater's seat.

Here is what my dealer told me:

TRANSMISSION/REAR-END both take universal tractor tranmission/hydraulic fluid (like John Deere 303 or R&O Hydraulic Fluid). He said thats what Mahindra told him (although he wouldn't recommend R&O).

BUT, he also said that you could use 80w90 gear oil too.

NOW FROM EXPERIENCE:

My tractor shifts A LOT better when using the 80w90 gear oil.......I had that in there before I changed to the universal fluid........When I change it again i'll go back to the gear oil. It works better for my tractor and my dealer said its ok to use it..........As for the hydraulics, i'll just use the JD303.

The transmission/rear-end has a total of (3) square head oil DRAIN plugs (I think they might be called "bull" plugs), where 2 are under the tractor and one is at the very bottom of the rear-end directly centered below the PTO shaft.
The fill plug (the only one) is to the right of the gear shifter.........The check plug (the only one) is on the right side of the transmission towards the center (you'll know it once you see it).......When oil runs out of that hole, it is full (it takes a lot. I believe a little over 5 gallons)....

The Hydraulic system has a dipstick type "bull" plug (the only one) behind the seat on the right side of the tractor. Directly right below it is the drain plug (the only one).

I HAVE THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL, ENGINE SERVICE MANUAL, AND CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL...........

OH!!! just right off the top of my head, the FUEL TANK holds 9.24 U.S. gallons and the tractor's TOTAL WEIGHT (with all fluids, 3pt. hitch, no attachments, etc.,) is 4092 LBS (without liquid in the tires)......I guess thats why it PULLS SO GREAT!!

I hope I didn't make this too complicated. It took me right at an hour to type this.............Hope this helps and if you need anything let me know.
