Buying a Kubota L5740 W/Grand Cab.....Which Backhoe ???

Hi Dave,

Your dealer should be able to get the Bradco and install it for you. It fits on the cab model. They will need to get the right mounting frame and spacers, but Bradco can tell them what to order. If they can't or don't want to then you might think twice about the dealer. I've seen Woods hoes on cab models too so that's a less expensive alternative.

My backhoe doesn't hook up to the remotes. Instead the main hydraulic line that runs from the loader valve to the rear axle and 3PH has been replaced by two hoses with couplers on the end. When you couple them together it's just like the original main hydraulic line. When you use the BH, the hoses connect to the BH rather than each other. This causes the fluid to flow out through the BH then back to the 3PH. The advantage of this arrangement is that there is no loss of flow/pressure from the remote valve, and you don't have to rig up some way to hold the remote on while using the BH.

Hayden,

Thanks for the response. Regarding the hydraulic setup you detail below, is this all part of the standard setup that my dealer will do after consulting with BradCo or is this one of several alternatives that you can do when connecting?

Also, do you have a subframe connection or strictly a 3ph one? In reading several other threads, people recommend the subframe to provide more stability, less stress on the tractor.

And finally, since you have used both Woods and BradCo, would you go the BradCo route again? I'm inclined to get the most BH my tractor can handle, as it makes it that much closer to an industrial setup (not comparable, but at least closer).

Thanks!

Dave

The Bradco is a 4 point frame mount. I think they pioneered that approach and it works very well. The old Woods frame mounts stunk, in my opinion, but the current one is just like the Bradcos and looks real good.

As I mentioned in my PM, I'd go Bradco again, but mostly because of the extra 2 feet of length, the integrated hydraulic thumb and foot control, and the adjustable swing speed control.

If I were going with a 9 foot hoe and didn't care about the other features then I think it's much harder to distinguish between the Woods and Bradco.

Regarding the hydraulic hook up, I'm not sure what Bradco offers/recommends to their dealers, but both mine and another dealer I considered were going to hook it up the same way.

The woods 90X has swing speed control & foot control on the thumb. The only (big) difference between the 2 is the digging depth. Not sure about the force specs (breakout etc.)

Thanks for the clarification. Woods really made a lot of improvements with the new series of backhoes. They replaced that awful under-body frame with a rear 4-point mount which to me was a deal killer on the old 9000 model. Swing control and integrated thumb really closes the gap. They upped the digging power as well if I recall the specs.
