Buying a pickup out of state?

Okay, back then pricing was completely nuts. About the only way to get good pricing was to order a vehicle, avoiding markups and inflated prices of used ones.

Case in point, I bought a '20 Trackhawk (ordered) for about $80K, had it for a year+ and sold it to Carvana for a bit more than $8K over what I had paid.

The big surprise was finding it for sale at a Kia dealer out of state...for just over $98K.

These days it's different. Last week I bought a '19 Dodge (from a dealer) for almost $10K less than what Carvana wants for similar ones. No wonder they lower their prices on many vehicles by $600-1,000 almost weekly.
Unfortunately prices haven't come down too much, they just kind of leveled out, and became the new norm. A truck optioned like my 18 (XLT 302A FX4 with a few options) MSRP'd for under $56K in 2018, and today MSRP's for over $64K.

I bought a 2019 Camaro 1SS 1LE brand new in 11/19 for $39,756. (they were trying to get it off the lot for the 20 year models) The same day that apartment in Fort Lauderdale collapsed, (I believe 06/25/21) and killed a bunch if people some semi-truck hit my SS 1LE and insurance totalled it out. The payout for the car that I daily drove for over 1.5 years and added about 13K miles to was $48K so about $8K more than what I bought it new for. That's why I bought my 18 back in November of 21. I was having to DD my 03 Lightning, which I had long since retired from DD service.

We purchased a car while on vacation once.

Had the motor blow in our jeep 800 miles from home.

It really wasn't any different then buying in state.

We didn't have to pay sales tax for the state we purchased the car in. Had to pay the sales tax when we registered it when we got home.

I worked with a lot of dealers across the country in a previous life. (Investigating them)

Most of the best are in border areas. Those dealerships will handle the paperwork for adjacent states.

The bad ones will insist they "have" to collect their state's tax. Some of those never actually submit it to their state. They submit altered paperwork and pocket the 'tax' money.

Safest dealers are those who have a franchise to sell new cars. They aren't perfect, but you can leverage that franchise if there's a problem, so they tend to be more honest.

Anybody buying from a licensed dealer in B.C. doesn't need to worry about title. Government regulations insure your money.

Hi, this is the Mrs. here in Maryland . We have a very lightly used truck I HAVE to sell. It is a 2022 Ford F-250 HD XLT with 1100 miles on it, beautiful X-line sprayed in bedliner. We bought it Dec 31 2022 as a retirement trophy. Since then major health problems have plagued my husband, in addition to a major drop in income and I need to sell it OR gonna get REPOed. Just need to pay off the loan. We have already made 18 months of payments. We have sold a few things cross country using ebay, and paypal. So I have a little experience without of state sales. CLEAN CARFAX. Dealers are low balling me. Drop me a line if you can help. Thanks for listening.

Take it to carmax, carvana, and your local ford dealers. Highest bidder wins! Or post it for sale on auto trader.

Unfortunately, it's underwater. They offer far less than what is owed, leaving me with large balance.
I been to Kelley Blue Book where they make offers to buy; carmax; and checked out carvana web site.
It seems that the only way to get close to payoff amount is private sale. However, one dealer offered to
take the truck in trade and tack on negative equity onto the purchase of another vehicle. I don't need
another car. Financially sinking like many others.

I recently sold a Durango on consignment of sorts, through the dealer I bought it from.

Got more for it than I expected.

Most of the best movers are in border areas. Those dealerships will handle the paperwork for adjacent states. If you need more details, check out this link about out of state car shipping. There you'll find many recommendations.
