I am going to be buying a tractor within the next week or so and I am really stuck on what to get. I originally looked at a John Deere 5320 and spent a week negotiating but the price was still a little high. The basics that I want are 2 remotes in the back and 4X4 with 55-65 HP. Now I am looking at the TN70 Standard for about $24,500, but should I go with the cheaper economy model or the more expensive deluxe model. What do you guys recommend there? Or should I go with the slightly cheaper Case JX65 or the JXC1070C?

This tractor will be used for general purpose farm work, which includes 4X4 round bales. I am going to get a loader as well, but that may be a future purchase. This is my first tractor purchase because the farm came with a Ford 4000, so any suggestions are welcome. Hopefully the price can stay in the lower to mid $20,000s and with a trade in of the old Ford, which is in good shape, be around $20,000. Thank you in advance, I have been reading the forums here and have found them very helpful getting to this point.

I checked out the Tarheel NH dealer after seeing it mentioned on here and got a price of $22,800 for the TN70 Standard 4X4 with 2 rear remotes and one mid mount. Thats a bit of a drive but the best deal I have gotten so far. From what I have seen people are happy with their TN series tractor and that's a better deal than the Cases so far.

The TN is a great machine. As for what model that is going to be up to you. The Standard TN is a great machine and will get the job done well. If you plan on doing a lot of work running equipment with displays and such then you will want to go with the deluxe model. If all you want to do is use a loader and use simple equipment then get the standard and don't worry. As for price, you should be able to get a FWA TN w/ loader for under $30k without talking trade. For a Ford 4000 you might get a $3-$4k trade offer. They might try to low ball you on the 4000 so when you are done negotiating price on the tractor and they give you a offer on the trade in if you like their number go for it. If you don't, tell them the number you do like and leave it at that. I traded my 4000 in on my 65 and got $3500. It had a loader (with a manure bucket) and the hydraulics needed some work but it started and ran great. It also was a Select-O-Speed which hurt its value some. If your tractor is in great condition you should be able to demand upwards to $5-$6k for it. Good luck.

As for the Case JXC1070C, if I recall that is the red TN70A so it would be a good comparison of price between the TN and JXC.

It is cheaper to get the loader when you buy the tractor then after. It also makes it so you have a loader ready machine ahead of time instead of an expensive add on later when you add the loader. So if you don't get the loader right now make sure you tell them you intend to and you want the tractor set up for a loader to begin with.

as I recall, when I was shopping there were some "options" on the TN that were not available on the JX. I am thinking about the folding roll bar, flexable link ends on the 3pt., and maybe the JX did'nt have a syncronized trans.cant remember for sure, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but just look very close at both of them.

The JX is not related to the TN. The JXC is a red TN. Case-IH has this thing about making all their tractors seem from the same line. They do not realize there are more letters in the alphabet so they keep using the same ones over and over to confuse everyone.

Hi tmag! I bought a NHTN65D in the fall and I really like it. I got the cab model with the NH loader. I was tired of freezing in the winter and baking in the summer. The tractor is awsome and easy to use. NH has deals on financing. I got 0% financing on my tractor. Hard to beat. The most important part of your buying a tractor is to get a dealer that will service your tractor the best. If you buy from a far away dealer, make sure you have a place to get any little bugs or problems fixed under warranty and after the warranty period. Get your best deal on paper and then go to your local dealer and see if they will match it or at least be in the ballpark. Good luck! Ken

Thanks guys, I visited a local NH/Case dealer over the weekend. The guy I spoke with said they had a harder time keeping Case on the lot and was really pushing a JX 65 on me. They are supposed to have some coming in soon so that might be a reason why.

I am leaning towards the TN but it seems like a pretty short tractor, maybe it was just sitting next to some larger ones. If I can find a JX or JXC somewhere I would like to take a look at them.

I know this is off the topic but what weights do you recommend? I am from PA and it gets pretty cold here should I get a block heater too?

I recently purchased a JX85 with cab and loader. The JX series is a bit larger than the TN. I was looking for a TN also but the dealer had this JX on the lot and would deal. So far I'm very happy with the tractor. I would get a block heater as they aren't expensive.

Yep, I am now looking at the JX65 and JX75. I found them to be larger and cheaper. Once I get a few more bucks off the price and sell my Ford 4000 I should have it, hopefully by the middle of April.

Tom that is a nice looking JX85 and a mean looking grapple.
