kubota bx1500
I am going to look at a used BX1500 with about 250 hours on it this weekend. It has a 48" MMM and turf tires. No other attachments are with it. It looks almost new in the pictures and according to the seller it has only been used to mow his 3 acres. Since this will be my first tractor, I would appreciate any advise on buying a used tractor, any problem areas with this model, and a fair price for a tractor like this.

ask him when he changed fluids. changing all fluids at 50 hrs is very important. also, how often does he lube the zerks on the mower deck. should be done at least twice a year. look at the 3 pt hitch for any nicks or signs of use. there should be little or none if he only mowed. if you can see where he stores it, look for leaks. look at the bill of sale if possible to verify he was the only owner.
that's all I can think of for now. if you can, get a copy of the manual and become
familiar with all levers/controls so you can make sure everything works. and keep reading TBN....better than any manual. I've have the identical tractor/set up for 7 years and love it. good luck.

I have a BX1500 with about 210 hours and it is a great machine. I would look at the hydro cooling fan under the machine above the mowing deck against the trans. It is white and is a common BX issue and is a pain to change. I would look at the Hydro oil and it should look clear with a color about like motor oil. If it is milky looking it could have moisture in it. Test the brakes it just has 1 pedal for the brakes on the right side. Check the differential lock its the small round pedal on the left side. Teat the 4wd out and inspect the drive shaft leading to the front. The front steering cylinder has rubber boots that are easy to tear. Are you getting a good price?

I've had a few Kubotas. The two I kept the longest, 3 years, till they were paid off, was a B7800 FEL and a BX1500 MMM. I just used the BX1500 for mowing on hillside property and it was the most stable on hillside of any I've owned. Never had a problem with it. I'd take it back anytime/

Thanks everyone for all the help and the quick responses. dex3361, as far as the price I'm not sure. He is asking $6500 and I can't find many current prices on the forum. Most of the posts are all a few years old.

$6500 seems a little high but if it is in great shape buy it....then sell it to me when you decide to buy a B7800! (IMHO- best mid size tractor you can buy).

Offer him $5900 and see if he bites.

Might want to negotiate down a bit the going price for a BX1500 at those hours seems to be between $5500 and $6000. Here is a search on
Tractor House for BX1500 tractors that are currently for sale.
