Buying a BEAT-UP Mahindra 1816?

Mahindra 1816 (with HST transmission). Questions:

- Differential Lock pedal does not move at all. Concern? Expensive?

- 400 hours. Lower right side of engine has a fine coating of oil/grime. Not wet, but a coating. Concern?

- Tractor, FEL, and Front Mount SNOWBLOWER.

- Engine sounds good. Hydro seems to work.

- Rode Hard, NEVER put away! Wet or Dry! (Not pretty, Never Garaged, not babied, faded, broken grille ( the grille is long gone), worn tires, bent front bucket, infrequent fluid/filter service if any???)

- No owner's manual.

MY INTENDED USE: The machine will be operated by two apartment repair technicians/landscapers.
Primarily snow removal and gravel driveway repair and maintenance.

It won't be abused but it won't be babied either.

- $7,000 ask, $6500 stated bottom line.

What do you think please?

- Properly priced?

- Way over priced?

- A bargain, grab it today?

- Run away?

- With the above info. in mind, as best you can, what would be a price that would be hard for ME to say no to?

Thanks.

I would run from that one, repairs are getting so expensive an abused tractor gets pricey quick. That being said, anything under $6000 I would buy it.

400 hours is barely broken in but only if it has been serviced at the proper intervals. I think it has the Mitsubishi engine which is a good one.

Front mount snowblower is a big plus. Front mount blowers are expensive so that's a good option to have especially in W'town.

Diff lock pedal is probably stuck from lack of use. I had the same problem on my Mahindra 2615 but after several applications of penetrating oil and working it back and forth it freed up. It took some prying at first to get the pedal to move but each time got easier.

My paint faded too because it sat outside in summer and inside in winter. I repainted mine with a brush and thinned out paint.

Tires aren't too badly priced because they are fairly small in size.

Film on engine can be cleaned with degreaser and a pressure washer then checked later for the source. May be a leaky valve cover gasket.

Broken grille, bent bucket, needing tires, faded paint, no service records, and stuck diff pedal are all negotiating tools for the price.

Personally I think its a decent price with the blower. Offer a little less than his bottom price. If you get it do the complete 400 hour service, all fluids and filters. Get the owners manual for the tractor, blower and loader. He should have them all. Tractor and loader was a little over 11K when new plus the price of the blower.
