Has anyone ever done this instead of building new? Friend of mine erects steel buildings, his one note was that code changes and sometimes an old building cannot be recertified.

you would need to check your local code for size and location.

Not a pole building, but a pre-engineered steel building?

Not a lot to either, I don't think you could salvage much beyond the tin on a pole building.

Most red iron steel buildings require an engineer in any case, so then it just becomes an issue of new paper and any changes there in.

Yes, Engineered Steel Building. One for sale down the street, about the size and the design I would use.

If the package is all there and looks good....why not.

All the ones I see usually have bent up beams, missing pieces, stuff forced out, etc

I'd have to get it at almost free take down price. If it is any age, the siding will be holey as you will never get back in same holes. I'd only use for siding and not roofing. Red metal would be OK. Just think of double the work..... Plus a percent over to move it.

No, but then I've never seen one cheap enough to be worth the time to take it apart and then put back together a used building instead of building a brand new one

There are some guys taking down chicken houses and selling them for a good price on Craigslist. I have no idea what they are paying for the buildings, but think they must be getting them for free in order to sell just the materials for what they are asking.

I sold a steel building for reuse five years ago. They salvaged the structural members and scrapped the rest.

The beams are usually salvageable and of the 2 I have seen taken down one was re-erected and the sliding door was reused and they called the original manufacturer and got new roofing and sides.
The other one is still in a pile 3 years later and I am 99% sure it will never be re-erected.
