Hi guys, I've been looking at used Kubota tractors in the 35 to 45 horsepower range. Several that I've looked at are discountinued models. Is there any danger in buying a discontinued model? Does Kubota do a good job of stocking parts for older models? My concern is parts availability; I don't want a situation where I need a part that's unique to my particular tractor and said part isn't readily available or if it is, it's expensive.

Are there particular models that I should avoid? Maybe Kubota has discontinued certain models due to reliability/maintenance issues?

Thanks

Joe

I wouldn't worry about anything thats 10 - 15 years old. Kubota uses a design for years with only minor changes (decals, sheetmetal,etc.). They seem very well supported with parts..... even on very old models. Only thing i might be concerned with is that it already has a loader and backhoe if you ever plan to add one. Thats the only area where outfitting an older tractor can get expensive.

If it is any comfort to you, a few years back I restored a 1973 L210. This is a very early import. During the restoration process, I ordered many, many parts. Right now, I would be hard pressed to remember any part that wasn't available. I'm not saying there may not be something that is no longer available, but Kubota seems to do a really good job with parts availability for the older tractors. As Ductape stated, I would be more concerned about the availability of add-ons, like loaders and such.

Since you are looking at models larger then a BX then I wont have to say stay away from 50 series due to jerking of tranny ;). But regardless of any model- tractor parts are more readily available to order much easier then a car or truck. So no worries there .

I have to agree with everyone. Kubota does a good job at stocking parts for older tractors. I recently had to order a grill for a 1987 L2550. It took less than a week for the exact replacement to arrive at the dealer's. I will also agree that it would be difficult, or impossible, to find a complete new loader or backhoe for a very old machine. You may find a used one if you look hard enough. Three point implements are not an issue and long as you have a Cat 1 or 2 Three point hitch and 540 RPM rear PTO.
