I tried to buy a cab from Laurin in Canada last winter. The cab sells for $3500 Canadian and Laurin wanted $3500 American from me, since I was going to be bringing it into the States. Considering that the Canadian dollar is worth about 35 cents less than the American dollar at the time, it was no savings for me to buy Canadian and their cab isn't worth a $1225 premium just because it was going to the states. For this reason, I will purchase American product if I purchase a cab.

The current exchange for the Canadian dollar is $1.29. If you could find a dealer that had good prices it may pay to buy there. Most everything is taxed at 15%. You can get some of that back when you import to the USA.

I don't know the current rules, but you are allowed to import a certain amount without paying import duties.

Purchasing a new tractor in Canada may make it a Gray Market tractor when it comes time for any warranty claims in the states.

I have seen truck loads of older tractors being hauled across the boarder. There are a lot of older tractors in Canada. If your planning to take a trip up there you may find some good deals.

IRON Solutions has listings for many Canadian dealers. Check out their site.

I bought new 10 HP. Honda and Yamaha outboard motors in Canada. The savings was over $500 dollars each after all taxes and duties were paid.

I understand the dollar exchange rate, but what do you attribute products costing so much less in Canada than USA that you were able to save over $1000 on two engines?

The Honda and Yamaha Motors sell for the same price in Canada and USA. They both sell for over $2000. When the exchange rate was at $1.50, it was not a problem. I have heard of people that bought boats in the USA. Then take it to Canada to have outboard motors put on it.
I have not checked into the price lately. This was only on Outboard Motors from these two manufactures. Buying the same Mercury motor, which Yamaha made, was priced much higher.
When I see some of the prices that Canadians are paying for tractors. I would not expect to find the same kind of deal. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
There some great deals to be made in Canada. If you are, purchasing Canadian made products.
You may find a Canadian dealer that will order the Cab you want at the Canadian price.

It is really strange how the pricing works. Kubota tractors are about 15-20% more expensive in Canada when adjusted for the exchange rate.

Husqvara chainsaws are about 2X more expensive in Canada than the US. Food is cheaper, cars are about the same.

The laurin cab for the 3130 is 7000$ Canadian for me to buy direct, but I hear of people getting them with ac for 4000$.

Kubota Canada is a distinct company from the US so the warrantees don't xfer. Massey is the same company I'm told.

Its one of those 'what the market will bear' type things, Junkman.

Believe it or not, new guns are usually much cheaper in the snowy north than in the US. I mean, given our gun control and all how weird is that?

Cars are usually cheaper up here too. So much so that Canadian dealers were doing a great business selling into the US, but the car makers all of a sudden like came up with no-reexport rules, voiding warranties, etc..

I believe that it boils down to what the expected buyer's after tax take home pay is. My understanding is that it is correspondingly significantly higher in the US than here, so if you want to sell us certain things you gotta lower your prices.

Now, drug costs are a different story. I know there are all kinds of stories about how the government here somehow keeps 'em low, but I doubt our government has that level of skill.

US drug costs are the highest in the world, probably because they can get away with it.

With respect to tractors, when the C $ was real low, almost all used heavy construction equipment here was bought for rexeport to the US. It took a long time for me to find my Case 580C because of that, and, so I was told, the dealer I sold it to sold it to a rexporter the next day.
