The last tractor I bought new I bought right in my home town in Ontario. I discovered I had paid thousands more than I would have paid if I bought in the US. Here I am ready to buy another new tractor and I don't want to pay too much this time. I contact Messicks Equipment and they were very interested in finding out where I lived. I couldn't figure out why as I planned to pay cash and pick up the tractor myself to take over the border. The minute they found out I was in Ontario I was told in no uncertain terms to buy in Ontario and they quit responding to my emails. Does anyone know if the Kubota dealers all have this attitude or are there some that still believe in free enterprise. If they do does anyone know of other tractor brands in the north states near Ontario that would like to sell tractors... even to a Canadian Eh?

I would prefer to buy in Ontario but I can't understand why Canadain dealers can't price comparable with the US. Although I've had good luck with my Kubota the high prices here may push me to another brand.

The reason why we stopped responding to your emails is because our contracts prohibit us from selling a tractor to anyone whom we are aware will be leaving the USA with it. Its all based on warranty claims and support. Kubota Canada is a different company than Kubota USA, so you'll probably have trouble getting it fixed without hauling it back here. If that becomes an issue its a strike against us for selling it to you and jeopardises our dealership. There are dealers that ignore this part of the contract, however we find Kubota important enough to our lively hoods to abide by it.

Maybe you should have explained that to him in your last email. My understanding is that Kubota also has sales areas and they are not supposed to sell a machine in another's area. Is this true, or was I told a story to fit the situation?

Kubota.ca HAS, and in some territories in process of ENDING all purchases made in the USA by Canadians.

KCL has the right to void any warranty and most likely will, and dealers have the right to not provide service, and if they do can at their discretion charge you a higher labor rate,.. or what they see fit. Over the long run,.. if might cost you more than you think.

With the economy taking a turn for the worse,.. why not choose to support your own, and in the process keep a local dealer running? Just remember the stated price is not the final price,.. if a salesman wants or needs a sale, then you can almost always get a lower price, and if not try a different dealer.

I also was going down the same path when I first started looking for my unit and did the E-mail thing back and forth with the same dealer.
Once I came straight out and told them what I wanted to do, they explained in detail why they could not and why it probably is not a good idea for me. I honestly wished they were local, seems like a great dealership.

In the end I ended going to the three closest dealers and giving them the unit I wanted and the price I wanted to pay, had about 5 months of patence, and I got my unit for a little less than the US price. (the week the dollar was $1.06 and KC adjusted their canadian prices).

I am going through the same thing with wanting to buy a cub cadet 2554 in canada and the difference was almost $1,800!
The price since then has came close enough that I will buy local and pay in full now and pick up with the spring delivery.

Go local, be a smart buyer, NEVER rush...;)

Hey you could have just told me that instead of silence. I still don't understand how the distance for me to get my tractor in for service jeopardizes your dealership.

*The 2554 is a nice tractor.
I have a nice like new one with a new tiller and a front blade I'd like to get rid of.
The blade and tiller have never been on the tractor.
Tractor only has 85 hours on it.

You sound like a dealer or KC warning or perhaps threatening people who don't like being taken avantage of. There are lots of other tractor companies besides kubota. When a company allows a dealer to become as nasty as you are suggesting they can be everyone will know, thanks to the internet and that company will have a serious PR problem.

With the economy turning worse perhaps the dealers simply need to show a little added respect for customers. KCL can help them do that as well by helping them to be competative with our cousins to the south.

I'm just telling you like it is,.. why should a company support you when at first you won't support the company.

This is NO DIFFERENT than the Bombardier episode when people started buying south of the border. More power to you, go buy south,.. might as well buy a SM while you are at it cause it will save you time by not getting told off buy a local dealer cause you are trying to fix your own tractor when/if you have a problem.

My discussion with you is finished,.. I can see why no one wants to deal with you.

To be honest, I thought you where a scammer trying to rip us off. We gets LOTS of emails from guys who won't give us specific information with the intent to defraud us in some way. Its a rampid problem online.

No, we do not have territories in the USA. However a dealer who is selling machines to customers that they have no intention of servicing is creating problems for themsevles. We sell tractors to guys 5-6 hours from our store, but if they have severe problems we also help them out.
