I had to buy new wiper blades today. For cryin' out loud, its just a piece of rubber to wipe water off the windscreen, but choosing the right one is really stressful!!! Theres single blade, twin blade, smooth edge, multi edge, 6.5mm or 8.5mm wide, silicon or graphite, blades only, full wiper assemblies, blades in some new fangled plastic thingy that can replace the metal assembly, choice of colors of (black, purple, green or grey), a multitude of lengths, and 3 different brands (although they are all made by the same company.

Phew!!

For the record I chose twin blades. I've bought single and twin blades previously. Still not sure which is better. Any opinions?

I still use the old fashioned single edge which seems to work just fine. As for too many choices, I'm finding that's true for many, if not most, products.

My truck wiper blades are trashed... I just don't drive in the rain. Maybe, drive it 500 miles a year and change the oil every two years. Retirement is sweet.

Bird, correct me if I'm wrong, but for years at service stations and most auto parts stores, Anco blades were almost the exclusive brand. Now there is Bosch as a primary maker and many other "designer" blades that seem to appeal more to the people looking through the windshield than to how well they work to remove water when it rains. I too just like to use a single blade model and replace them when there is any streaking.

With wipers, we bought what the auto parts store person said was next to the top of the line wipers. They don't work for beans! I switched back to the most inexpensive single blade Anco's and they work fine and cost way less.

If it's any consolation I just switched back to single blade disposable razors after 20 + years of increasing the blade count as new ones came out. The singles are really, really cheap and the 5 blades are way more expense. Both seem to do the job! I only shave about once a week (baby face ) and a 12 pack of single blades will probably last me until retirement!

Great trick is to wipe the rubber blade with alcohol wipe - it will work just like new as long as the rubber is still holding on the wiper.

I'm in Bird's Camp.

In the past I've tried the all weather style as they are not supposed to clog with snow and ice? This style didn't really impress me.:( Neither dis one set of very expensive blades. :(

I buy the cheapest and just replace them when needed, maybe 3 times a year.

I will try the alcohol trick though. Thanks for the tip.

I was never impressed with the 15-20 dollar blades.

Yep, I don't remember any other brands when I was a teenager in my dad's service stations and auto parts store. And I still use the Anco blades; from Walmart now. Of course we used to just replace the wiper refills instead of the whole thing, like I do now.
